just kidding take it easy.... a few of you had your 45's loaded i know.. last week, i picked up a 2007 gallardo spyder egear... 28k miles and fully serviced... very clean car that drives perfectly.. passed PPI at the lambo dealership so the car is 100% perfect... no excuses or stories. the car is an absolute animal with 500 horsepower and SICK acceleration... SICK! All the gadgets inside also got me excited for a few minutes.... rear camera, self leveling suspension, heated seats etc etc etc...... but despite its crazy hot looks and the bells and whistles which Ferrari does not offer, there is absolutely no question that even a 360 Modena drives better and feels better than a gallardo......I will use the 360 as an example as Ive owned my for over 3 years and got to know the car very well on the streets and a few track events as well..... wont even mention a 430 which is evolutions ahead! the steering of the 360 is more precise and accurate and feels lighter. The Ferrari responds better to all driver needs including steering, throttle response and braking. There is no question is a better built vehicle... not to mention there is much more space inside the Ferrari and a more comfy driving position. The lambo felt heavier than expected with steering response a big sluggish compared to the super light 360. Though the lambo has the 360 beat on straight line accelration, im pretty sure the cars would match up fairly evenly on the race track. Like a very hot supermodel with an I.Q of A 12 year old, I find the Gallardo VERY appealing and fun for a few hours......and as much as I like this Lambo, IMO, FERRARI is the better car! Funny that you had mentioned that as I had a Murci roadster and the steering sluggish because of the all wheel drive, hence the Balboni Gallardo and rear wheel Murci or LP 640. The Lambos are fantastic cars but like you said, my 360 that I went back to because I could not justify the extra 20-25k for a 430 when the 360 is a great weekend car or daily driver. I'm in the hunt for the 458 when the prices fall and they will. Our cars are born of a race pedigree, period! That is what makes them unique and very good cars echelons above the rest.
+1 The engineering good that transfers from the Ferrari racing programs to its street cars can not be overstated. Mike
I kind of agree except about the built quality part. IMO, Lambo has better build quality and engineering. This is why a 30k mi Gallardo holds up like new. F360/430 does feel more agile with greater feedback. That is one thing the AWD has taken away from the Gallardo. I have yet to drive the Balboni. IMO, that is the best of both worlds.
I personally have always been a Lambo guy. I would never spend the money on a 430, I'd way rather have the gallardo over a 360/430. Funny, I have a 430 in the garage and a 458 on the way. Don't own a Lambo. Test drove the LP560-4 and a 458, and imo there was NO CONTEST. There might be with Superleggera but that's still a gallardo just on a diet with a few more horses. Maybe with lp640 but that's 12 cylinders and how much more $$? Ferrari has turned me into a believer!!
Good luck with your new ride and thanks for the post! I'm a ferrari guy, but the Lambo's are quite nice- every car has it's own personality and I'd imagine the 4-wheel drive gives better traction in certain instances at the expense of the "lightness" of both the car and the drivetrain for feedback. Since my 360 is fast enough for me, while I appreciate the additional acceleration of the lambo or 430/458, it's kind of diminishing returns to me. With just the rear wheel drive, my 360 looses traction in 1st, 2nd gear if I punch it (and that is with summer RE-11 tires)- I could see how that all wheel drive gets you going RIGHT NOW when you lay on the throttle!! I'm not one of these lambo sucks ferrari rules guys...if I had enough money and space I'd have a lambo (after acquiring about 2 more ferrari's however )
I couldn't decide... so I bought one of each. '07 F430 and an '06 Gallardo Spider They're both amazing cars. The Ferrari is, by far, the better track car. I've tracked both and there's just no comparison. The Lambo is gets WAY more attention. Of course it helps that I put an aftermarket exhaust on the Lambo which has no mufflers. You know the valves open sound of the stock Gallardo... imagine that all the time, but tuned to perfection. It's just sick. I love having both, but living here in Cali and the Lambo being a Spider, I put more miles on the Gallardo than the F430. I like both cars much better than my 360...
Before I bought my 430, I was also a Lambo believer, and have always believed that Lambos were above all other marques. When the time came for me to burn a hole in my bank account, I test drove the Gallardo but realised that I always felt tired after a drive. My whole body ached. It's loud and fast, no doubt. It turned heads, no doubt. But it was absolutely tiring to drive. The 430 on the other hand, made me giggle like a little girl (and NO, I'm straight as an arrow). I felt refreshed, raving for more. It felt agile, light and sexy (and NO again, I'm straight as an arrow). There was so much more in a 430 for me that the Lambo. The Gallardo felt like an Audi (hey waitaminute....), it drove like an Audi (waitaminute!) and that's not good enough for me. Maybe the Murcie would have been different. There's no question that the Gallardo has more horses and torque than the 430. It pulls harder off the line, it sounds angrier but to me it was just too tiring an experience. And for the record, I do mean staight arrows...
Sweet ride. Both Lambo and Ferrari make great cars. Correct me if I am wrong, the 2007 gallardo spyder has 520hp not 500hp.
It is a completely different car and amazing in its own right. I have driven several. Steering is much much heavier than 360/430 due to the AWD (not unlike my R8). Grip is much better and not as jitterish overall. Looks are current and futuristic rather than classic and sexy. Different enough to warrent having both in your stable.
I sat in a Yellow Gallardo last winter and the interior felt cheaper than a Vette. It really surprised me.
Being 6'2" a Gallardo was out of the question for me. Superleggera with the carbon bucket seats was almost doable but no headroom left over... I fit just fine in the F430 with standard and the 458 with racing seats. Both Ferrari and Lambo are fun and exciting Italian cars and owning either or both is a real treat.
I'll second the room issue in the Gallardo. I am 6'4" and 220 lbs and I cannot fit in the G car (MY 2006). End of that story. In a Murci (MY 2004), my head was cocked at a 45 degree angle due to the headliner shroud around the door. F360 and later models pose no issue for me.
Interesting I have yet to drive or sit in a lambo so I do not know. I am 5'10 and fluffy lol 260 wonder if my fatness can fit in a gallardo.
It's not really a car for big or tall people. I'm 5' 8" and I have the seat as far back as it'll go without rubbing on the back. The coupes have more room as the spider's top storage and mechanism take up a lot of space in a car that doesn't have much room to spare. It's also damned near to sitting on the ground. When I give my 82yo dad a ride, I have to pull him out of the car as he can't get out. The Ferrari, in stark contrast, is spacious by comparison with a lot of room to spare. To the person who said the interior was cheap... not sure what you were looking at. The interior on my '06 G is all Carbon Fiber and black leather. The fit and finish is amazing and once you get over the fact that you're looking at Audi electronics, it's a wonderful place to be. Here are a couple of pix of my car including an interior shot I took a while ago and a "model" shot Kirby took of my car for Forgestar wheels. Beautiful car... IMHO. I'd agree that Gallardo interior has far better quality than Ferrari. Ferrari 360/430 interior may look nice with lots of detail. However, after a few year, the interior buttons turn gummy and peel. You won't find that in the Gallardo.
LOL, I have said this about 1000 times, turn the G into RWD other than that it is a pickup truck, and for some reason only the coupes feel like sports cars, or it just could be the way they feel to me.
You're right, the dash is huge. The windscreen is raked way back which means a lot of dashboard. Cleaning the window requires tools as there's no way to reach the whole thing with your hands. I have heard of others who'd disconnected the front-wheel drive on their Gallardo's to lose weight and to re-gain the rear-wheel drive feel. I thought about it and decided to keep this part of the car stock. I've tracked the car on Laguna Seca and while it's not nearly as good as the Ferrari, it was no slouch. The car didn't feel heavy at speed at all. Steering was fine and there was no back-end out feeling... which is kind-of nice when you're powering through a corner. But again, teh F430 is a much better track car. A couple of other things that makes the Gallardo a better daily driver: - Front-end lift system (finally available as an option on the 458) - Electrically operated folding mirrors - Heated seats (nice with a spider when you want to extend the top-down season) - Killer stereo (the type of sound system you'd want in your Ferrari) Oh... the Gallardo attracts WAY more attention from women than the Ferrari does
