bought my 2004 Gallardo 3 months back and the oil change was completed by the dealership. Does it matter what brand of oil I use to top off about 1 quart. I asm planning on using Mobil but I am not able to verify what brand the dealership used for the actual oil change. I dont want to change the entie oil in 3 months when only a top off of 1 quart is needed.
The grade is 5W 40 which I will use bt dont know the brand used. Do I have to use what is stated in the book or Mobil 5W 40 be okay
    Thanks

The oil Lambo recommends is expensive Agip 5w 40,(I do not think many dealers use it) and I did buy it and use it for my first oil change. I went with Castrol after that, and I do not think it will cause any problems mixing oil since I have had to to just that in many cars.

Find out what brand oil is in your car and use that brand. Never mix oil brands - the differences in additives can break the oil down i.e., no protection for your engine. Its ok to mix different viscosities of the same brand but not different brands of the same viscosity. If you can't find out from the dealer what oil they used, do another oil change with the type of oil you want to use. Look at it this way, the cost of an oil change in this case is nothing compared to the cost of a destroyed engine ;-)

I have been told by a reputable mechanic to pick a good oil and just stick with it, do not jump around from one oil brand to another.

I have used different oils when just a little was needed for years, and never had a problem, I can only speak from my experience.
