I've searched the threads, and found very limited information on the details of servicing a Gallardo. Here are my questions (Hoping folks with a G-Car can reply too):

    1) Besides the 1k & 7.5K services (oil, ecu, etc..) what are service intervals for (Spark plugs, Belt, Valve adj(?), etc..)

    2) If driven correctly, how long are the clutches lasting (6speed)?

    3) If one lives 4hours from the dealership, how simple is it for doing ones oil changes?

    4) I've owned mostly Lotus cars, and wonder how the maintenance/reliability compare.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rick

Well I shall start for you - having just done my second service on my G.

1.) the next is 15K miles and so on. I don't think you worry about the AC belts, etc until 30K or maybe 60K - I haven't looked that far in my service manual - and it is in my Garage right now :) Since the Lambos use timing chains you dont have the nightmare of engine pulling. As well the gallardo can do the clutch change without an engine out as well.

2.) Hypothetically forever... The early 04's had the A and B release clutches - which some were prone to pre-mature wear due to some faulty clutch plate material or something like that. If you get the a car with a more recent release C - E you should be fine - as long as you are not trying to peal out with AWD or slipping the clutch too much.

3.) It really depends on the dealer - I am about 100 miles away and my dealer comes and picks up the car in a car carrier for free. Some may work with you, some may split the charge or give you a good rate, some may just tell you to get it there at your cost... If there are others in your area - it is best to work out timing on when you are all going in and work with the dealer or a carrier to take all your cars at once. This board is very good at making friends with Lambos in your area :)

3b.) It is a special filter which the dealer can oder for you - that and some Synthetic (Mobil 1) and it is no different than any other car really - to change your own oil. I do mine once per year regardless of the recommendation of every 7500 for an oil change and tune up. Usually for me 1 year comes around well before the 7500 mile mark.

4.) I could go on about this for many pages. But without question the Gallardo is absolutely the best / bullet proof exotic I have seen thus far. I would compare it to Porsche in that regards. I have spent a total of 850 bucks with my 04 - on two services the 1500 mile initial check up and oil change, as well as full 7500 mile service. After speaking with the service guys at my lambo dealer - they really say that only expect to pay 850 per service - everything else is bullet proof. I will tell you - I was budgeting 3K per year and usually spend it on my Ferrari's...

Of course this does not include Tires or aftermarket stuff you may want to do on your G. But to say it is the least expensive most exciting exotic I have owned would be a gross understatement.

And I am getting the G-Spyder - so my current G is for sale... If you are interested PM Me (end shameless promotion)... It is on e-bay but if a F-chatter wants it - I will pull it off and make a deal.

Thank you Rich for the information. This is exactly the info I was looking for. I heard the 30K service was around $2800... That's not too bad for the "Big" one... As for buying one right now, I am just at the beginning of my research/learning of Gallardo owenership, and will look at buying more towards the summer/fall.

    THanks,

    Rick

Hey bud, I'm also putting together a lot of research on the G, maybe we can share information? I don't have much as of this very moment, (just what you see in the thread 'actually buying a Gallardo'...) but I was thinking that after I get all the inside scoop on the car and the buying / maintaining process I would post all the information on the board for anyone else who might be taking up the same path we're on right now. My experience with the exotic ownership scene is rather ‘pre-mature’, but that is what makes the learning even more fun.

PM me if you're into it.
