Got some more info this week about the gallardo spider:

But first - here is what I am ordering for my Spider - put some of the pre-specs in this week on her:

Color will be the Dark Grey (like a metallic Pewter) - So about 2 tones darker than the Murci Titanium. This color is available on the Murci in 05 - I have only seen 1 or 2 pics - but picture dark grey metallic. It is a special order for the Spider. Option Price (if it does not become a standard color for the Gallardo - which as of right now it is not) - $4,800.

The Interior will be two tone Black with Red inserts - and red piping. (Do not ask me to remember the fancy names they give these colors - I do not remember.

I have decided to go with the 6 speed manual :)

Here are the other options I will be getting - Navigation, Back up sensor, car cover, Coming home, on board computer, I am sticking with the black Break Calipers with the exterior color - I didn't think silver would look good). Power and heated seats, etc.

I also got the branding package that will have Gallardo Spider on the dash, the Lambo bull on the head rests and I think it also will say Spider on the back right rear.

    ____________________________________________________________

Couple of tidbits in no particular order that I did not know:

1.) From what we all know there will be basically 3 models of the Gallardo. The Coupe, The Piton, and the Spider. From what I am hearing the Coupe will have the 493 (aka 500hp) engine. Only the Piton and the Spider will have the 522Hp engine. Interesting to say the least if this is true...

2.) As you have seen in a few other posts - there are various packages you can get: Smokers Package (Ash Tray and not sure what else comes with smokers package - humidor maybe ;). If you do not get the smokers package - you get a cup holder! Yes you heard it - cup holder (I am getting this one - but will never use it ;)

3.) There is the Carbon Fiber interior package - which I think is available on the 05 coupes: this is going to be an $8,600 dollar option - I did not get this. It replaces the center consel, dash area, Stereo area, air vents and door open areas..

4.) There is a Leather Option - same as above - but in leather instead of carbon. OK - so picture the air vents in leather? I don't think so - I am sure the heat and cold air blowing on the leather will be good for it... And the description I read actually said the vents and openings would be in leather instead of black matte plastic...

5.) They are going to offer a special Leather as well - like the napa leather with the pin/vent holes kind of like the murci - I think this was a 4K option. Of which I did not order :)

6.) The GLASS BONNET will NOT be an option on the spider. Due to the placement of the top hold - which covers a large portion of the engine bay - this will not be an option.

I got to see/hear a ton of stuff and the pricing on the options as well - I should be able to recall most if you all have any specifics that you want to know...

Thanks for this very informative post Richard. Looks like there will be more scope for customisation - at a price.

I'm looking forward to driving one. I'm more of a coupe guy, but this car has me interested ( I hope my wife isn't reading this forum! :))

    Thanks for the comments Mark...

I am with you on the options - I think the Spider will retail base at around 211K USD. With just a few big options, like Carbon Fiber Interior, E-Gear, Leather Upgrade for the Seats, Navigation, etc. You could be pressing 245K pretty easily on this car - which puts you about in Murci Coupe range (So you could justify a Murci to your wife and have your hard top :) :) :)

Good job Rich! Sounds like it will be nice. I was just joking, you don't have to let me ride the hardtop first. But you should still get scissor doors on it!

Are they asking you to spec the car already?
I thought you didn’t need to do that until the Oct launch

Just doing Pre Specs - since they know most of the options, colors, etc. They get pre odering done - so when it is time - they just confirm everything and you are ready to go. (at least this is what my dealer does.) They have about 20 on the waiting list for the spider already...

Just to compare notes, I was told something along the lines of confirm order in Oct, delivery in May. Were you told the same?

    In General - yes.

However it really depends on where you are on your dealers list. For instance - let's assume there are 20 dealers in the US (round number). Let's say that on average each dealer has 10 people/current customers on the "list" to get a Spider.

As my dealer explained (like the Murci Roadster) - each dealer will get an initial allocation. Let's say it will be the first 4 on the list from each dealer (or the first 80 coming to the US) - so dealers will get more - some less depending on size/volume. I am like number 5 on the list at my dealer. If the first allocation comes in May - (for the first few at each dealer) - the next lot would be a few months later and so on. So I think we could be looking at anywhere from May - December honestly for the car to arrive depending on where you are on the list, etc.

Also - they make several cars for demo purposes, autoshows, etc - this will cut into the number coming over/available for sale. I think it will also have to do with the options, etc. I think mine will be a "custom" paint - therefore it would take longer than standard.

My dealer did say - unless production is delayed for some reason - I would have mine as early as May/June - no later than December (worse case). They also have not confirmed the actually production numbers yet. I assume it will be 1500 (only a guess) - but even with that most dealers have nearly 20 people on the "list" - that would mean ~400 are sold in the US alone... (a good thing for value) a bad thing for time to wait on the car.

If the wait list continues to grow - and the excitement/media has yet to begin mass coverage on the Spider. I will be the first to bet that the premiums on resale will be about 50K over MSRP for the first year on the G-Spider. My Guess anyway.

While at my dealer - there were 2 people that week who put their deposit down on the Spider as well. I believe they were number 19 and 20 - for this dealer.

There is a Lamborghini mechanics workshop scheduled for this December. Typically they do this for new cars. I suspect the main thing is the Gallardo spider, however, there are other things brewing. The GT Murcielago is rumored and there is talk of something altogether new. One guess was a Miura type car, but just a guess.

Ahhh if it were only a custom Red paint job :) :) :)

However - I am going with the Red Seat Inserts - that has to count for something ;)

rich, is that 1500 a year world wide??? i quess that sounds right, but i would think at least 40-50% would be us bound......i was hoping it would only be 10k over the coupe price...so a 6 speed would be 180k base price...but i quess i was dreaming.....lets see, 220k with a few options, plus 50k is 270k!!! as much as i love the g car spider, over 250k for any non supercar is too much these days...love the car you picked...very unique, rare and very deep in person, and it changes tones with different lighting.....

The other thing to keep in mind is that even though prices will utimately (within 9 months) settle to list, I estimate there will be a much gentler depreciation curve than the coupe. This will be due both to the merits of the car (outstanding looking and great performance) as well as due to the copious notes that Lamborghini took when launching the coupe (on how NOT to sell an exotic) - I am sure they will manage supply quite carefully.

I am expecting the msrp to be about 20% of the Coupe MSRP - so if you are at around 175K (approx) for the average optioned coupe MSRP - I would figure 210K or so starting list for the Spider - add on a few options say 225K (pretty much loaded). Remember if you are on the "list" you can get one at MSRP - you would only have to pay over list (if it happens at all) if you buy it once someone wants to flip it.)

They will by all means keep the fully loaded price under 235K (or they will have many people drop out and go to a murci - like me for example) - they do not want to get to the 250K mark - if they were this would severly interfer with the Murci market - since you can be there for just a few K more than 250...
