I've been a long time Ferrari guy, and I think I'm making the move over to Lambo with their new G-spider. I have a relationship with my local Ferrari guy but nothing with the Local Lambo guy. So here is my question: What's the updated status of getting a spider if I put down a deposit now? Does it make a difference geographically where you put down a deposit? (i.e. does one dealer have a much larger allocation than another?)

    Thanks

Can't offer too much here, but I am a first time Lambo owner too and went through Nelson (Ohio Lambo). They plan to have the largest allocation of 1st year spiders of all the USA dealers. I think its 40 spiders. I believe they may have one or 2 left that are available, but they will already be pre-speced so whatever the color is you have to take it as such otherwise you'll have a year wait to spec it yourself.

As far as other dealers, I don't have a clue.

You're right about that, and of course the pre-speced ones will be auctioned to the highest over-msrp bidder when they come in. Most dealers are 6months-year out.

One thing is for certain (based on my personal experience) is that L-Car dealers are certainly far more accomodating than F-Car dealers in terms of ensuring you get a car in a reasonable time. And L-Car dealers don't care if you have bought 10 Lambo's or zero Lambo's. No politics. No BS.

Agreed; this is why Ferrari IS loosing customers to the Lamborghini brand. They still don't get it. :)

Amen to that, Nelson Lambo has treated me very well. While certainly I'd like to have a Ferrari again somewhere down the road because I like the cars, Lambo was a total refreshing experience (both dealer and car). I have no reason to jump ship back to Ferrari at this point.

Good Luck Noel on finding a Spider.

Phil, I've bled Ferrari red for years, but the dealer games just became too much for me so I switched to the G-spyder as a great alternative to the 430 waiting list. Like the other posts, I found the Lambo dealers to be wonderful and easy to deal with. Making the experience of getting your dream car fun again. Luckily my business partner and I put down a deposits last summer when we first saw a sneak peak of the car. We're both in the first few cars and spec'd the cars some time ago. I suspect the dealers will be truthful and easy to deal with if you want the car. I would guess the first year is almost gone so get on it if you want one. I hope your experience is as pleasant as ours was. The dark side is pretty cool so far. If the horse won't let you ride, ride a bull. Your at the rodeo either way!!!

It a shame that the dealer style doesn’t extend over the water to the UK!

We have 1 main dealer with 2 dealerships. If you want a Lambo then you've not really got any choice who you deal with. This means no competition and the potential of a 'my way or the highway' type of attitude. A lot of business is done on personality and if I don't like the salesman where else can I go. This in gives people a bad experience with the brand and so they move on to another.

Even for pre-owned the list is very very short and the support network is a joke. We have 3 options for servicing and when the warranty runs out we don't have any specialist that can carry the torch. We'd have to pay the main dealers extortionate rates to fix all the silly annoying problems. (Don't get me started on the clutch issues. When I enquired why the clutches were all going I was told 'Because people don't know how to drive the cars properly' WTF!!! Why have they been replaced 'UNDER WARRANTY' then!!! Does this not point to a manufacturing problem!) Even now they're
onto the 3rd revision, but now, after 10,000 miles the owner has to pay for the new ones.............!

I think if Lamborghini don't address this problem very soon then the market for Lambos in the UK is going to be hurt badly. Now is the time to address it seeing as though the first model year warranties are about to run out!

I was under the impression that lots of UK buyers, to avoid waits (even on Porsche and Bimmer) would get LHD cars, is that not an option for Lambo buyers? I'd think the European market would afford you a bunch of deals, no?

so what should ferrari and its dealers do in you people's opinion?

sell a car to the guy who complain the most?
increase the production by 100% so supply can meet demand?
increase price by 50% and less people can buy so supply can meet demand?
allocations goes to highest bidder no matter he/she is new or old customers?

what is it? what should they do?
apparently ferrari's problem is their supply can not meet demand, thats why not every potential buyer can be satisfied.
if you guys have real suggestions that's fair for both ferrari and buyers, speak out, i would love to hear, and i am certain ferrari does too.
    otherwise its just senseless whinning.

My sense is that the G-Spyders are going to be siginificantly more available than other high demand cars (i.e. 430s, etc.) -- My gut check is that dealers have been relatively easy about getting car allocations, and I have yet to see a single "this is a contract to buy a g-spyder for $X over MSRP" auctions on eBay, which is usually a pretty good indicator of over-sold market conditions.
