I am not sure if it is a bad move...420 HP is a lot of horses and a weight reduction in the Gallardo might make it equal to the V10 or even better. I just don't get why making a V8 just now? Why not before?
ha, i knew it. The v8 fsi is a great engine. Lambos are barely worthy enough! Next step for lambo, the 2.0L turbo evo engine. Thats right...you heard it here first!
Why on earth would they do this to their brand? My gut says this is a mule ... similar to that 599 spied w/ Schumi lapping the Ring. May very well be a V8 in the Gallardo, but it'd bet it's a test for a "baby baby" lambo or some other varient (i.e. competition to the new 'Dino') ...
I think Noah nailed it. It'll be a baby Lambo to compete against the new Dino- and they're using the G-car as a mule. I feel bad for anyone with an '04 Gallardo or 360 as they'll get POUNDED in resale once these new cars get released.. Why would anyone buy a used 360 for $115-130k if they can get a new V8 Dino with a retractable hardtop WITH a warranty for $10-20k more? And, where would the V10 R8 be positioned if there was a V8 Gallardo? Same price point? Audi AG is manufacturing a helluva lot of similar cars now. Looks like they're starting to compete against themselves.
Because Ferrari isn't dumb and the new car isn't going to be $10 - $20k more. Word on the street is that it's going to be more like $175k (with a standard Ferrari premium, that'll be $200k market vs. the F430's $250k and the 430 Spider's $300k). My guess is that we'll still see 360s at $100 - $140k, the "Dino" at $175k - $200k and 430s at $220k+
Has to be a test mule. There's no reason for them to do it unless they were making a super light weight, stripped down RWD race car, for some reason, and even then the weight difference between a V8 and the V10 is pretty insignificant. Plus there would be the whole "we don't race our cars" mantle to escape. Then there's the fact that Audi's addiction to AWD rules out a RWD crazy car, so, the smart money is on a mule.
Im going with Noah too, thats the only thing that would make sense. The Gallardo has been selling like crazy there's no need to take the V10 out. Its going in a "baby" lambo to compete with the new Ferrari.
Will Ferrari really be able to sell "dinos" at $175k+? Considering the performance they'll likely have (has to be a notch down from the 430 or its replacement), the production (which is predicted to be even higher than the 430 line), and the ever-growing pool of competitors, I personally don't think so. Just my 2c.
