    Any owners of a Gallardo out there? What is your opinion of the car? What has your experience been?

    I'd like to move up from my 355 GTS to a 360 Modena, but at least on paper the Gallardo looks like a viable alternative. I'm sure that the Gallardo is going to take a bigger depreciation hit than the 360. I guess I'm more concerned about quality and reliability issues, as the car is going to be driven 6-8K miles a year.

    Opinions?

    John, you might post this question in the Lambo section on this board. You will likely get different answers depending on location, but there do seem to be at least several owners of 360's who went to gcars and are quite happy. I much prefer the cabin and space, as a taller driver, of the 360. Much better seating position and better visibility, both of which greatly influence comfort and pleasure of driving.

    I also had been considering both cars and have purchased a 360, should pick it up this week! I did a two hour test drive in both cars a few weeks ago. To make a long story short, the Ferrari felt much lighter on it's feet and felt faster and more responsive, more race car like and I like that. The Lambo felt very substantial, well put together except for the seats, they are very thin and not as comfortable as the Ferrari. As far as reliability I can't say. On a final note my wife thought the Lambo was downright ugly compared to the Ferrari! Just my 2 cents.

    Build Quality = Gallardo
    Reliability = Gallardo
    Power = Gallardo
    Long Term owner ship costs = Gallardo
    Styling = Subjective
    Interior Room = 360
    Less Depreciation = 360...for now

    What do you want...A Ferrari or Lamborghini...that is the real question? If you base it purely on driving and the numbers the Gallardo wins each time...and I have driven them both...exstensively. The BIG thing that you have to consider is regardless of how good the Gallardo is it is not a Ferrari...and some folks have to have their $100k plus car be a Ferrari.

    You must decide...here is a good side by side comparison.

    Thanks for all the input so far, guys!

    I didn't realize we had a Lambo section on this site - I've posted the same question over there.

    Drive both and decide for yourself.

    I've racked up about 36,000 miles on my 2001 360. 6-8,000 miles per year shouldn't be a problem at all.

    Steve, shouldn't your analysis include the real truth as follows:

    Build Quality = Gallardo = VOLKSWAGON/AUDI
    Reliability = Gallardo = VOLKSWAGON/AUDI
    Power = Gallardo = VOLKSWAGON/AUDI
    Long Term owner ship costs = Gallardo = VOLKSWAGON/AUDI
    Styling = Subjective
    Interior Room = 360 = Ferrari
    Less Depreciation = 360...for now = FERRARI

    Biased Ferrari Owner :)

    I have no problem with

    VW/Audi = Lamborghini

    as long as you take

    Fiat = Ferrari

    Ciao'

    ;-)

    Steve

    PS...and yes I own a Ferrari...and a Lamborghini is in the future

    Went through the same dilemna...had an NSX (poor mans F355!) and was trying to decide between 360 Modena or Gallardo...
    After much much research and many test drives, I went with the Gallardo.
    Both are great cars.
    This is a ferrari website, so obviously you are going to get *some* bias, but the Lambo just had the power and presence and styling that i wanted.

    Things that didnt matter to me in the end (Just my opinions...)
    Audi/Lamborghini link...who cares? German reliability with Italian Style is not a bad thing IMHO.
    Racing Heritage...yeah...I am going to be flamed big time for this one, but I couldnt care about this either. I am not a race car driver, and race cars and street cars are different animals. Honda has a race heritage, but it doesnt make my NSX any better than a "no-racing-heritage" Lamborghini Diablo.

    I agree with the posters above:
    Ferrari styling: elegant, graceful, gentlemans sports car... (although I do not apply the first two adjectives to the 430...sorry guys)
    Lambo styling: aggressive, in your face..."look at me!"

    What drew me to the Gallardo:
    this car is tight! absolutlely solid. workmanship is top notch.
    feels more powerful and stable to me...(I felt the 360 was a little twitchy/squirelly..i know some people like this...I dont...If I wanted squirelly I would buy a Lotus Esprit V8).
    horsepower! horsepower! horsepower!
    styling...I already have a gentlemans sports car (NSX), and I wanted something more aggressive and in your face
    comfort..I actually am more comfortable in the Gallardo...it feels smaller, but hugs your body and the cars "wraps" around you...I always felt that the 360 cockpit was elegant but too much room in the wrong places.
    reliability. nuf said
    cost of ownership. ditto

    I think in the end, its all about the car, meaning filter through all the name calling and Ferrari owners bashing Lambo owners as posers, and Lambo owners calling Ferrari owners Ferrari-f*gs, and look at the cars...drive them both, pick the one you want, and screw what anyone else thinks! (Then two years later, sell it, and buy the other one to try out!)

    I'd go with the 360, but that's just me. You should be able to test drive both cars and make up your mind.

    Why does it matter? How much of a Ferrari is actually a Ferrari these days?

    I didnt realise an NSX was a gentlemans sports car lol! woosh.

    I think it does just come down to the brand, although they probably drive totally differently. When you wake up do want to go to work in the lambo or the F-car!?

    Hmmm......test drives are a problem for me. I'm a paraplegic (the result of an inattentive Buick driver pulling into the path of my ZX-12R 2 years ago) - I have hand controls for throttle/brake in my 355. I suppose I could do "test rides", but I doubt it would really tell me what i want to know - steering feel, etc.

    So, whether I go for the 360 or a Gallardo, I'm kind of buying a pig in a poke - but I had the same issue with the 355, and that worked out OK.

    I'm just really thankful that at this stage in life I can even talk seriously about buying cars like this!

    Hmm...I had owned NSX, driven 360 and the G, and now own the CS...

    I must say when the final decision was made by me...I went with the CS.

    Normal 360 is nice, but yes, it is a bit twichy on the limit. The G doesn't have all that, it just lay down power and go. But I feel the G's weight a lot, and don't like the interior. 360 is more nimble IMO and that makes it more fun to drive than the G for me....

    If I have to choose again today... it would be
    1st CS
    2nd 360
    3rd G

    Well I chose to keep my Testarossa over a 360, the 360 didn't give me a reason as why to pay the extra money over the Testarossa. After I test drove the Gallardo I couldn't go to sleep that night, but it wasn't the right time for me to buy a car, but when the time came the I drove a 360 manual then the F1, after that I went to the Lamborghini dealer and tried the Gallardo again, the Egear and then the manual, after that then I ordered a manual Gallardo, no regrets. By the way the Gallardo is very stable at high speeds, I had mine at 175mph and it was rock solid, the steering doesn't feel as light and quick as the 360 but I guess something has to give. You can't go wrong with either one. By my experience the Gallardo is the one that everyone stares at, is an event every time I take it out, the 360 is looked at by car people or those who know what a Ferrari is.

    I was driving my 2004 360 Modena, Tour de France Blue, with my girlfriend the other day when she pointed at an orange Gallardo that went buy. "It looks like a bug." she said. I was suprised but, on reflection, agreed it does look like a bug, especially in green or orange.
