I am just sitting here doing some accounting and paying my bills....telephone...internet....fax....Mastercard....etc....etc....

Now while my gripe may not affect companies as they usually have sufficent cash flow or credit (it's company bills I am doing) it can be applied to individuals very easily.....to wit.....here's the DD's on my corporate bills.....personal ones are the same....more or less.

Due date on phone bill the 27th
Due date on fax bill the 27th
Due date on internet bill the 28th
Due date on Mastercard bill the 29th

The "cumulative" penalties for payments processed after the due date on all four bills amount to approximately $23 in total.........

Now I pay my bills (both personal and corporate) on time....but the vast majority of the salaried populace I imagine who may have to pay their personal bills from paycheque to paycheque......which means the 31st or the 15th get screwed.....are getting literally dollared to death.

A million past due invoices at $3-4 bucks per that are 3-4 days late amongst a population of say 15 million bill payers can add up real fast in favor of those companies.

You can typically call in and have your due date changed to whatever you'd like.

With the exception of one of my accounts, all of my bills are due between the 2nd and 7th of every month. Doesn't matter much to me since I don't live payday-to-payday, but it's easier from an organization standpoint.

I'd consider it a tax on people foolish enough to spend money they don't have. If you live paycheck to paycheck, you are doing something (many things) wrong - primarily, living above your means.

Secondly - you buy a new TV, or whatever, with your Mastercard on the 5th, enjoy it for free for 21 days, then complain that you now have to pay for it. Doesn't make sense.

Lastly - since the pay period is the same each month, then you could PLAN AHEAD for it and reserve the money to pay on time, rather than waiting for your paycheck to arrive.

And actually you cannot change the due dates on the accounts I am referring to because of "billing cycles"....which we all know is BS.

Verizon asked me when I'd like my payment to be due. All of my credit card issuers asked me when I'd like my payment to be due. *shrug*

I'm not saying it's different on your side of the border.....it's just the way it is up here.

The due date on my phone bill is within a day or two of my electric bill. But the phone bill arrives several weeks before the electric bill. Billing periods are roughly the same. I figure that the phone companies are a bunch of money grubbers who think that if they send you the bill as fast as they can after the due date, then you will pay it just as quickly. That way, the money draws interest in THEIR account for several weeks instead of YOUR account. Homey don't play that game. They get paid when the electric bill arrives.
