Okay, we're adding a 2 car garage to the back of our house, and its nice and big and stuff, and my only concern is all the CRAP that my parents want to put in there! I have no idea what I can/should do! Pretty much I want half the garage as a place for me to be able to work on cars and stuff where its just my stuff, not everyone elses, cause thats the problem with the one car garage we have in the front of the house....its such a horrible mess because its always been a mess and been impossible for it not to be a mess!
Yeah, I know, I'm 16 and lucky to be getting any garage at all, but I think what my parents want to do is crazy. We're keeping the origional garage thats in the front of the house, but filling in the wall where the door is, and it will be my dads "fine woodworking" garage......but I was just informed today that the tablesaw (not a small one) and a bunch of other crap (how many non-working band saws can someone have! sheesh!) is going into the new garage....Also, we're getting rid of the tool shed we've got, and since we've got a rider mower, my mom wants to put it in the garage too.....yeah, fine, but if i'm gonna park my car in there I know that the lawnmower is gonna SOMEHOW damage the car.....well, sorta...cause my little brother is the one that mows the lawn and stuff, and doesnt really have much common sense lets say? I can picture him flying into the garage next to my car, running a rock or something over, the blade still on of course, the rock going right into the side of my car.....or him trying to back up and hitting the car....any number of things.
So thats two problems. Plus, i KNOW that all the crap from the origional garage has got to go somewhere.....and I have that feeling that its going into the new garage? lol
What should I try and do? I dont see why the table saw and that stuff has to go in the new garage....the origional garage is big enough for it, and its not like my dad actually uses it often.....plus, in the garage, it will just be a place to put more crap and it will mean sawdust all over the place....not good if i'm gonna be rebuilding an engine or whatever....
As for the mower and all the lawn stuff, I'm trying to convince my mom that we should just build a small shed next to the addition so that we can keep the mower and the rakes and shovels and stuff in there.....i even offerd to pay for it/ build it myself....dunno how thats gonna go though...
What can you guys suggest? I'd do anything to just have my own little part of the garage where I can say that I'd have all my tools and stuff neat and in order, without having newspapers, garbage, plant pots, etc. put all over it and stuff....Any advice?
    Thanks

    I feel for you.

I think your offer to pay for the shed will go over well. If my son offered to put his money where his mouth is, I would be extremely receptive. Of course he is only 9, so I have a ways to go before his resources match his desires. :D

It sounds like your whole family needs to go thru a "decluttering" exercise.
We went thru one at the start of the year. I was astonished how much stuff we sold, gave away, tossed.
We hired an organizer person to help us out. She was ruthless!!!!!!!

Good luck clearing out a space for your stuff. Hopefully you won't need to wait until you are out of college to have your own work space (like I did)

    Thanks for the reply
It sucks cause I feel like I'm being held back from learning what I'm interested in....my moms not too happy bout me wanting to work on cars and stuff cause she doesnt want car parts and stuff all around the garage, thinks if i start working on cars our house will look like white trash-ville USA or something.....
My dad is crazy....one day he's suggesting a get yet an OLDER car (Once I sell the Cadillac I'm buying my friends 88 Camaro IROC...yeah, its no ferrari, but for 2000 bucks, 235 horsepower STOCK plus .92g's stock isnt too bad....) and build an engine, tranny, rear end, restore the interior, paint the car, etc.....next day he's like "No, what do you need a car jack for. If you need to change a flat, theres a jack in the trunk"....
Although I dont want to spend my life working on cars for a living, pretty much cars are the only thing i really am interested in and really love....
I tried to talk to them tonight at dinner about it, suggesting that we keep the shed that we've got now and i'd repaint it or whatever to make it look better, when they said no to that i suggested I just build a friggin shed alongside the back of the garage just big enough for the rakes, shovels, etc. and the lawn mower, wouldnt have to be big or anything, and before we start putting the siding on the addition (its still a long way from there, but...) we could use the leftovers or order a little more and make the little "shed" match the rest of the adition...and again, my suggestion was rejected....apparently I'm welcome to do whatever I want when I'm earning big bucks and stuff, but they REFUSE to compromise...
It sucks....cant stand how my parents are ALWAYS having mood swings and stuff.....
They have those TV commercials about "Whats your anti-drug?", well pretty much besides common sense, my "anti-drug" is cars....even though I dont have a car worth working on yet, I read, chat, watch, etc. cars in my spare time, almost nothing else.....its truely the only thing that i can really say i have a passion for....
I'm gonna see about maybe coming up with some sort of "divider" that I can put up, but isnt permanant or anything....if i can get the table saw and lawn mower put on the other side of the garage (I have claimed the far side of the garage away from the house, a little less room but I dont want people getting out of the other car, which would probably be my moms since my dad never drives anywhere, walking past my car and whatever I'm doing....plus, I can envision the PERFECT work bench along the wall...), maybe I can get something like a strong tarp and stretch it through the middle of the garage so that its more difficult to clutter my side....though i'm sure my mom will find something wrong/offensive with that too...
I just need a place where I can be alone, by myself, whenever I want, and be able to just tinker around or whatever....once the garage is built, i'm buying a welder (not sure, TIG or MIG...still gotta figure otu whats best for me), and once I have that i'll probably just be making EVERYTHING i want/need...Yeah, we're putting a game room on top of the garage (Adding second story to house as well), and we're buying a pool table and stuff, but thats not what interests me....I really just need a place that I can keep clean by myself without ANYONE elses stuff, where I can be alone, uninterupted, hang out with friends (who also are in to cars, but not as bad as me, lol), etc...
I can picture it in my head, but I can also picture what it will look like if I dont win this fight....lol
    Thanks
Any more advice/input is greatly appreciated...
