We are in the process of building a new home at which I will be constructing a garage / workshop / ham radio shack and bicycle "bike shop," as my wife calls it.

Through searches and surfing around I found this forum which looks like it will be extremely helpful to me and others with garage projects and questions..may have been discussed here before but here it is, hope it's a help:

    Hi Chris

Congratulations on the construction! We just built a new house and had a 220 line/plug put in John's room for ham equipment. Something to consider if your ham shack will be incorporated in the home. We also have a metal sided, steel frame 40 x 60 garage/shop adjacent to the house. The roof has some opaque panels which make it nice for indirect lighting when you don't want to turn the overheads on. It has a workshop area with cabinets/shelving;220 line; abundent electrical outlets (never can have enough of them); large cement apron in front; two double garage doors on one side and a single garage door on the other. It holds a car on wheel dollies, three others, our son's race bikes, and numerous other things. There's some neat racks in the bicycle magazines for storing many in a small area - need to explore further. About the only thing I can think of to change on our garage/workshop would be to have it increased to 80 or 100 feet instead of 60.

    Good luck, happy building.
