Do we have any insight/recommendations into US vendors for Car lifts - 1, 2 or 4 post versions. I’ve been doing some research and there are a few options out there. I’m specifically looking for experience with what works best. I have standard 2 car garage and would like to convert it to a 3 car garage for my 458 spider and 308GTS. So not very tall cars comparatively.
been told the headroom is height of each car +10 inches should fit.

Work out the clearance as best you can. Mine is 13ft 2 inch and works great on my cars PLUS I can change the canned lighting blubs as I need to. Any higher and it becomes harder to change burned out bulbs. I have a 4 post BendPak. Love it ! Have had it for 14 years now. I am not the kind of guy anymore that needs to take my wheels off but if you do, you would need a bridge lift to do it. 4 posts are nice to do general work under your cars. I am very happy with mine. I suppose in the best world you have BOTH a 2 post and a 4 post but again BendPak is solid!

For primarily car storage I'd definitely do 4-post. No particular requirements would be needed for the floor with one. A 2-post needs a little more care in placement and installation, but it's better for actual service work. Some cars don't like having their suspension dangling at full extension for a long time. Pay attention to the safety stop locations or they can eat up all your headroom (although 10 inches should be plenty for any lift).

Sweet thanks. Luckily it’s a 308 and 458. So very tall is not an issue.

Bendpak is really popular on garage journal, and what I plan to get if I ever finish out my shop. One of the better chinese-made lifts. There are probably better ones, but for 4-post it's not as big a deal since they're plenty overbuilt.

Bendpak, it’s in the name. Bendpak has gone so far downhill in the past 10 years I would NEVER EVER recommend getting one. I’ve owned more than 10 bendpak lifts in the past 10 years and the quality is completely out the window. Major QC issue on my last one and they wouldn’t warranty it.

I recommend forward or direct brand 4 post lifts for home storage. They work great, and are subsidies of Dover which is the parent company of rotary. I have owned basically every major brand of lift both 2 and 4 post, and work with them on a daily basis.

Niiice. What’s the clearance on the floor to door rail. Mine is 99 inches. Yours looks similar - standard rail or did you have it raised.

Thanks Stew - great insight. Last thing we need is to become a meme of Ferrari on Ferrari violence.

that’s the issue with company profits over quality.

I would recommend an American made lift from Advantage Lifts out of Hanover, PA. I have been very happy with mine.

If your bay is narrow the standard width Autostacker works well better than a four post. You will need ramps to get the 458 on without scraping, not sure about the 308. I have 12’ ceilings in house garage, I’m at just under 6’ tall and I can walk under no issue. I also have a 4 post in my detached garage. With a flatter entry than the stacker, driving on/off is easier with this one.

That looks sweet. I also have 12’ ceilings (garage door rail is at 99 inches) with a standard 16 foot opening so 8+ feet inside.

how much was it ? If you don’t mind my asking

Yes, I had a hi-lift track installed for that bay. Floor to rail is 128”.

I bought it back in the early spring before they increased prices. I think for the lift now is @9500-10k plus install. I paid about 8500 plus 1500 for delivery and installation.

If you look at my top picture with that lift, you can see the track for the garage door is up against the wall. I had one of the new side mounted openers the installed and raised the tracks.

I have 2, 4 post Forward lifts installed in our garage. One had to be serviced once and the customer service from the company who installed them was great, and the lift manufacturer backs their product well. The ceiling is 11’ but could get away with 10’. We had the high-lift tracks and side motors installed also.

Got the Autostacker a couple months ago. See picture.

    Pros:
    - Space (no need for 4 posts)
    - Speed (the 220 goes up and down in 30 secs)
    - Looks good

    Cons:
    - Expensive ($10k)
    - Need ramps for low profile cars like the 458. I scratched mine the first time I tried it. I can't believe they don't come with it! Apparently they're coming up with them in September.

I've also heard good things about this one:

Honestly if I'd known about this last model, I may have gone for it.
