Wonderfull spaces. I'm curious how the epoxy floors stay so clean . I have the oil coat ( 2 coats ) and was about to take it from the luster finish it is now to the full gloss with the acryllic finish but i'm having doubts about the constant dirty look of dust and etc. I'm in the country so that doesnt help .

I'd like to thank Joel (photonut) for bringing this to my attention: MASERATI & ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST just completed a search to uncover spectacular garages across the US. You can check out the entries at: http://www.designdriven.us/

I'll post some of the highlights here below.

My personal favorite is the garage featured in this post. Here are the details about this particular garage (from the owner):

"This space was an addition to an existing residence created by the same architectural firm 20 years previous. The vision for this space was to serve multiple purposes. First, the client is an avid collector of luxury vehicles and this new space was to be a gallery to enjoy and showcase a selection of his most prized automobiles. Second, the client hosts a variety of large functions, therefore the addition was to be conducive for private events. Finally, the client desired additional residential space for out of town guests.

This addition was located directly across from existing garages which were renovated to emulate the new and then connected to the original residence by means of a covered breezeway. A new stone paver auto court is now shared by both garage spaces. The exterior materials were painstakingly matched to allow for an undetectable transition.

The auto gallery is spacious and elegantly appointed. A stunning mahogany wall system hides access to storage cabinetry flanking a black granite service bar. The same granite serves as the perimeter for the gray porcelain showroom floor. Both garages are air conditioned and auto-related art adorn the walls. Men’s and women’s restrooms are located to the rear of the garage and are as refined as the residential space. Beneath the auto gallery is a detailing garage.

When entertaining, the garage doors rise and disappear into the sophisticated ceiling system. For privacy a custom tent is erected connecting the two garages and enclosing the entire auto court transforming it into a large ballroom. The space is air conditioned and spacious enough to comfortably seat and serve over 500 people.

For overnight guests, an exquisite 1500 square foot two bedroom penthouse is located above the the garage. It is beautifully appointed and contains its own private vestibule accessed through an entry door, as well as, through the auto gallery. All three floors are also connected by way of a hidden elevator."

I would place this garage as my second favorite in the MASERATI & ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST contest.

Here are the details about this stunning garage (from the owner):

"Located in the hills above Los Angeles, these modern garages share the grounds of an estate with a glass and travertine main house and a guest house situated on the famous Mulholland Drive. The owner, a car enthusiast since the age of two, has a passion for fast modern cars only rivaled by his love of modern architecture and design. In creating this compound he said “I wanted it to be really special.” These cars are my collection of sculptures and I wanted to display them in an open fashion so they can be appreciated by all who pass by. I’m often asked if Ferris Bueller was my inspiration for the Ferrari-equipped glass garage, said the owner. The reality is that I built it so I can sit in the living room of my glass house in my favorite chair and gaze across the lawn into my glass garage housing my favorite cars.” He continued, “The only reason to leave is to have some fun sliding thru Mulholland’s turns."

This gets my vote for most 'fascinating' garage. The originality of the design is simply fantastic. Here is more about the garage from the owner:

"My inspiration for this structure was the aerodynamic forms of classic European racing and sports cars. Both as an artist and architect, I have always been drawn to the extraordinary beauty of shapes determined by speed, whether in cars, boats, or airplanes.

The use of Teflon fabric for the roof was a very effective way of incorporating complex curvilinear forms in the garage. The steel structure that holds the roof in place when the wind blows recalls suspension components of Formula One race cars. The clear, butt-glazed glass walls provide a clear view of the cars within."

The stonework, driveway and courtyard to this garage is spectacular.

Here is more information about this particular garage from its owner:

"This historical 12,000 square foot English Manor home is an impeccably detailed “Old World” structure that epitomizes the dichotomy between the past, present and future. It is built of the finest quality materials commensurate with the vernacular of Architecture and has the latest modern facilities, home automation and control systems. The design concept of the project includes a primary vehicular procession through the home beginning with the porte cochere into a grand motor court with garage storage for 5 automobiles including one special showcase building.

The drive continues down a private cylindrical ramp to a secret parking structure hidden below ground where a motorized turntable rotates exotic cars for easy parking and display. The procession is an evolving architectural experience that begins with a 600 foot long driveway and culminates in an elaborate lower level complex complete with a large auto showroom; exercise and spa area; recreation and bar area; as well as an indoor basketball court. The combined upper and lower garage space encompasses room for over 25 automobiles."

Another personal favorite. A very elegant space for an elegant home.

Here is more information about this particular garage from its owner:

"Inspired by the warmth and casual elegance they had experienced in the Italian countryside, the Owners sought to express this spirit in the architecture of their recently completed equestrian estate. Their passion for authentic, handcrafted quality did not stop at the door to the garage. In addition to the utility of the primary garage, they wanted to create a special environment for their growing collection of performance automobiles, without expanding the building footprint.

The Architect's solution: A 2000 square foot subterranean space that forms the foundation of the residence, tucked away and secure, with natural light brought in through the use of light wells and the glass garage door. The structure was engineered with no interior columns to achieve the flexibility of multiple parking configurations without having to navigate around structural obstacles. A common technique used throughout Italy, contemporary low voltage cable lighting was introduced to feature the cars and artwork and is easily adjusted to accommodate their evolving arrangements.

Wilson's concept for the interior was to incorporate the materials and handcrafted textures used throughout the residence to create a dynamic contrast between the sleek lines of the modern cars with the warmth of natural stone, reclaimed Roman bricks, wooden beams, and the hand-troweled plaster of the architecture.

This juxtaposition allows the cars to be displayed as sculptures within the space, admired yet ready to go for a spin at a moment's notice!"

I love the modern architecture, clean lines and simplicity of this garage. Another favorite of mine.

Here is more information about this garage from its owner:

"This is a true modern art piece. If you like to differentiate yourself from the rest, then this masterpiece of contemporary architecture is a fitting enclave. A detached garage at the rear of the property is accessed via tumbled block drive through a tandem covered porte-cochere. The garage is positioned as an extension of the home, fronted by a glass door with halogen lighting discretely placed inside to highlight the display of visceral excitement that lies within."
