I guess it depends on whether you will show it at concourse or drive it. As a show car, it would be excellent, as a car to be driven, it will need a lot of work and money.

The choice is yours, or in this case, who ever bought it.

You can use the phrase "garage queen", but NEVER utter the words "Daytona" and "junk" in the same phrase again... Evar. Mmkay? If you'd seen the car in person, you wouldn't even be bothering with this question.

    It was flat-out GORGEOUS.

So you figure $1,500,000? Do they throw in the belt service or is that extra? I'd have to think that the car has to be redone prior to putting it on the showroom floor, but maybe not.

The price I was quoted at SVAG was 695k, and have heard variations on Fchat from 645 to 715. What exactly, in your opinion, would need to be "redone" on this car in order for it to be trailered from show to show on a trophy collection spree?

Well would it even run? Aren't all the seals and bearing basically shot after 35 years regardless of use? Can a head gasket last 35 years? If the concept is to push it off a trailer I guess you don't have to do anything, but wouldn't 35 year old antifreeze be a problem for the radiator? Just seems like the dealership probably had to spend $30,000 prior to selling it to make in run correctly. Who would spend $650,000 car that was not up to date on service?

Its not a car, it is a museum piece. At this point it would be unfortunate if the new buyer put it on the road and racked up 10k miles.

This thing should be preserved in its original condition. People can refer to it to see the way things were done at the Ferrari factory in 1971.
What color were the paint stripes on the coil springs? etc.

Well, it sold. That's quite a return from a car that orginally sold for $20,000 or so.

I figure that would be equivelent of saying, "Hey guys, I found this old 250 Testarossa, runs and needs allot of engine work but the miles are low, should I even consider fixing this old heap?"

You are making a lot of assumptions here. Bearings shot regardless of use, I sure hope not! What makes you think the antifreeze has never been changed?
I put less than 100 miles a year on both of my Ferrari's, and they each get an oil change, radiator flush and fill, brake fluid flush, fuel drained if it is over three months old, and any other service that may pop up every year. If I owned this car it would have been very well taken care of regardless of the milege. Also, why wouldn't it run? Maybe it was started and run several times a month and not had miles put on it.

Along with Lambo Miura, the two most beautiful designs of all time. It's worth whatever they're asking.

You don't think that you are the exception rather than the rule? Why would a person invest a ton into service of a car they don't use? Not even just as an expense issue, but how high on their list of things to do would it be? I won't drive it, but I let it idle on the driveway a few times a month? Unless the original owner became cripple and could not drive, it seems odd, after all the car would hopefully been bought by an enthusiast of some sort.

If this was a 1981 308 with 1400 miles people would be up and down the guys ass for not driving it.

I am definately the exception. But you made a good point. A Vintage car with low miles is a gem. I'd buy this car in a second if I had that kind of disposable income. But get into the classic or modern area and you are an ****** for not driving your car like people think God and Enzo intended. Go figure!!!
Neither god or enzo really gives a crap.

    Garage-Queen DOG, thats for sure.

I would NEVER buy a car that old with that little mileage. Your just asking for trouble. Right now at Naples Motorsports they have a Viper GTS for sale with 40 original miles, I think the car is a '99. God, why cant people just DRIVE their cars?!

Look at the color of that car. No wonder no one drove it.

Keep in mind that in the early 70s, not all Ferraris were red. They're still not all red, but someone outside of the Ferrari community would be hard-pressed to know.

Example: I was talking to a friend across the country a couple weeks ago, and he says, "Oh *man* - I gotta tell you about this...I saw a YELLOW Modena (pronounces it, "moh-DEE-nuh") today!"

    I'm like, "Cool....and?"

    "And it was YELLOW!"

    See what I mean?
