Indianapolis 500 veteran Gary Bettenhausen passes away at 72 | MotorSportsTalk

 

RIP.

I met him once when he came down to see one of his brother's team's test sessions
at Sebring in 1997.

They were great guys, very much missed in the racing community.

Met GB many times, at Indianapolis and in sprint car races at my hometown of Dayton.

When he injured his hands, he had the doctor form his fingers to hold a steering wheel, and he still raced sprints. Despite deaths in his family from racing, GB was a race driver in the true sense of the word.

this is sad. gary was one of the original usac oval guys. a name synonymous with indy.
