    New scud owner here. CEL came on this week and been reading that the gas cap is likely the problem. I noticed from the day I purchased that the gas cap "jiggles" a little bit but didn't think the seal was ever a problem as I've been driving a few months with no problem. But now with the CEL light, I'm curious if that is normal now....

    I'm going to get the OBD reader today, but wanted to check if this was normal first since I can't compare. Also, the CEL came up after the car sat for a week with a half tank and temps have been changing..... figure maybe that may have contributed.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    I believe that the cap should be tightened down snugly to make a full seal. There should not be any 'jiggles' at all.

    I would check the seal to make sure it is not damaged or missing.

    The seal seems fine, but the top part that clicks has quite a bit of movement. Part of me thinks this is normal, but maybe not?

    SSaa, the CEL can be triggered by a number of faults, mostly emissions related. Best that you get yourself that code reader and see what it reveals. Don't be tempted to pull the power it will only extinguish the light and erase the memory which might be valuable.

    My gas cap might be different to yours (mine makes no clicks) but if you have the type I suspect you do it's probably normal.

    On my scud, the gas cap makes the clicking noise when you tighten it. But after that it stays tight without any jiggling noise.

    On my 16m the cel came on. I checked my gas cap and it jiggled a bit
    Turned out Emiission related to purge valves . Nothing related to gas cap....still jiggles a bit no cel after dealer emission work.

    My 07 gas cap has jiggled after tightening since I purchased on 12/12. Never a CEL issue. It seems to seal good but it feels like something plastic inside the cap is broken. I have checked another 430 cap, it also Jiggled. Forgot to mention it when I had the car serviced so not sure if it is broken or not.

    Just checked mine. Very slight jiggle to it.
