Purchased a 1983 512 bbi and have not filled gas tank yet. Went to fill car today and the smaller key that I have does not work in the keyed gas cap. Any advise.

Seriously, CONTRATS ON THE 512BBi !!!!!!!

Call whomever you bought the car from. Somebody had to have put gas in it.

I have had this problem. Usually the key caps are cheap junk. Have just twisted a couple off by hand no wrench needed. Also I have small hands and not a gorilla. GTS Bruce

The teeth on the key usually wear.

Usually pushing the key further into the lock gently will get it to work or turning it to engage some resistance and then pulling out and continuing to turn will also unlock it.

A locksmith or you and a decent pick set will have it open in about 60 seconds.
