My Gas Flap release switch apparently stayed in an "on" position. (I didn't notice and it made no noise.) After driving for about 15 minutes I arrived at my location and noticed by gas flap was open. I went to close it but noticed the shaft from the solenoid was extended. I tried to push it in with my thumb and (literally) suffered a second degree burn. The shaft was that hot! I would have thought a fuse would have blown or perhaps the relay but no. Instead, the power continuted unabated to the solenoid and fried the solenoid. Anyone know if this part cross references to another cheaper car? I doubt it's made just for Ferrari....
    Prices for the part?

    Thanks!

Ferrari part no is 6542400 on Table 120, item 25. Ricambi lists it at $640. Looks like an ideal candidate for a breaker's yard buy! You will surely check why current was being sent to the electro-magnet (switch, relay....) and that the solenoid is truly fried.
You're right. This part or very similar must be used in lots of places. Maybe somebody will come up an equivalent.

I cant believe how expensive Ricambi is, they are ripping you off! As far as I can see the same part on UK site Eurospares.co.uk is € 150, that is about $ 200. Come on Ricambi why these insane prices?

I have never had anything to do with stripping one of them out. So while you have done this, i will ask you this question if i may? How does the emergency fuel flap operating cable work with this unit? and how is it attached?

The back of the solenoid has a threaded extension that the cable attaches to. By pulling the cable you pull back the shaft inside the solenoid thereby releasing the gas flap.
Of course, if your solenoid locks up your cable release may not work. My solenoid locked too tighgly for the cable mechanism to work.

$640 for a gas flap opening solenoid?

Before you spend big money on this, take it to your local electric repair shop. This just seems like one of those little electrical parts that could be rebuilt in a couple of hours by any competent electric shop for $40 or so. Hard to believe you'd need to buy a brand new solenoid, much less one for $640!!!

BTW, was this pin sticking for awhile before it froze in the open position? Mine seems to stick a lot, requiring me to thump the door 2/3 of the time before it'll open. I tried spraying some dry lube in there, which worked for about a month, but now it's sticking again. Maybe I'll try WD-40 next.

If it counts for anything my Alfa 164S uses the same method solenoid release for its gas door. Both cars are from the same era and the same parent company. Just a thought...

Jason at alfissimo.com can help cross reference the parts for a match, if possible.

What is the name of the company (on the label) that manufactured the solenoid and the PN? Google them and I'm sure you could buy the part directly or through one of their distributors. Ferrari is usually very careful about removing labels and identifying numbers so you can't source the part yourself. However, in this case, it doesn't look like they did this.

Same for me....have gone the WD-40 route with little luck.

It started sticking about 2 months ago.

How much do you suppose a doorbell solenoid goes for these days? Probably $5-10. I'm not sure what the voltage requirement is, but the transformer steps down the household voltage, probably either to 12V or 24V for the solenoid. I'll bet you could make a new solenoid for the gas door for maybe $25 in parts, probably less.

WD40 on mine a couple times a year and work it in by hand seems to keep mine working fine. Before it would refuse to open on occasion without working the button repeatedly until it would finally release. I would like the door to have a bit more spring tension...but not worth risking messing with it for now. ;)
