Gas mileage or Reliability, which is more important to you?

    As the title says, I'm curious...if you could only get a car with great reliability but poor gas mileage or a car with poor reliability but great gas mileage, which would it be and why?

    What is great milage 12 MPG or 52 MPG?
    What is bad milage:: 8 MPG or 20 MPG?
    What is reliability: Toyota or GM?
    What is Unreliable: Yugo or Hyundai?

    I would take reliability over gas mileage any day of the week. I would rather pay more at the pump than deal with the headaches of being stranded on side of the road or have to be first name basis with the service advisor at my dealer.

    reliability. no contest for me.

    Interesting question though as most of the high mpg cars tend to be among the more reliable as well.

    Reliability,if you are looking for good M.P.G.you would not buy a ferrari!
    There again some would probably say you don"t buy a Ferrari for reliability either!!!

    Reliability is the most important factor.

    Pushing your car along the shoulder of the road when it breaks down might be great for the MPG average but it looks all wrong in a dress and high heels. :)

    Reliability all the way!
    You can spend an extra $ on gas everyday or at least any given sunday :) but having your car in the shop 'cause it got busted isn't an option. For me at least though...

    Reliability tops MPG everyday!

    Reliability for me also no contest. I want to be able to hop in my vehicle, be it car, truck, boat, plane, snowmachine etc and go with no worries. I have never considered gas mileage when buying a vehicle.
    I own two vehicles now that are best run on premium fuel and it does get to be a bit pricey at over 2.00 a gallon but I still would rather pay for the gas and not have to worry about breaking down.

    Reliability! Gas prices fluctuate while service costs seem to only go up.

    Reliability. I don't think gas mileage is even a factor when you are considering
    buying an fcar (or exotics).

    Reliability for me. I want to be able to go from point A to B without worrying about the car breaking down. Gas is something you can plan ahead.

    Another vote for reliability. It's much easier to deal with bad gas mileage... And if it has a large gas tank like many guzzlers do, you can get some very large cruising ranges...

    Reliability here too. One good $1000 repair bill can increase your annual gas bill 20-50%. And even with a warranty a dealer will expect you to leave your car overnight, which is a pain in the behind (heck, my Subaru dealer's service center expects customers to leave their cars overnight - w/o a loaner - for oil changes!).
