I've had my 2012 Cali for over a year. About one out of every four times I try to fill it with gas, the pump just keeps shutting itself off and simply won't fill the tank. It doesn't seem to matter how far the nozzle is inserted into the filler. When this happens, it happens with all the pumps at the particular station. (In case you're wondering, I've been pumping my own gas since they started allowing it decades ago, so I don't think it's a skills issue.) Has anyone else had this problem, and if so is there a cure, other than driving on to another station?

Yep, slide the hose out A VERY LITTLE and turn it to a different angle, eventually you will find a 'sweet spot' that works ... squint your left eye and raise your right leg too, that helps :D, meaning it seems like it is very touchy to find the right position. Two Californias and 45,000 total Cali miles, both of mine were like that, no big deal.

    I have the same problem

    It's very annoying

The angle of the filler is important

If the normal position of filling the car is considered at the six o'clock position, then I find the best position to be about 10 o'clock

I also find removing the neck about an inch from the end stop also helps

I also reduce the flow rate to about three quarters of full flow by reducing the pressure on the trigger

10 o'clock trick seems to work most consistently. Flow modulation doesn't. Insertion depth of nozzle doesn't seem to either tho I haven't pulled it out this far...
