Hi all, I just went back from a little Sunday morning drive and noticed that my 458 was smelling gas when putting it back into my garage...which created a little bit of a panic since we have all heard of some Ferrari catching fire because of gas leaks. I noticed that the smell was particularly strong around the filler and at the rear window air intake. And here what I have found out when opening the gas filler door. That silver cap on the flap looks like to be missing, exposing holes in the flap. See pictures Here how it should look like: The bad thing is that I don't know where this piece has gone. Did it fall into the tank?? Is there a way to get that piece somewhere or is this going to cost me a complete filler neck unit? Also, do you guys believe this is the reason of the smell or is it more...the fact that the smell came out of the rear window air intake makes me wonder. Just in case someone else made that very strange experience... Enjoy your drives, Steve.
You are going to have to replace the complete filler neck. The flap on mine broke before and the dealer replaced mine 3 years ago. I don't recall the cost exactly but it was less than 800 if I was correct. I would check out eurospares in uk and see what the cost would be.
Hello, I just encountered a similar situation in my car. After filling up at a gas station, the next day I noticed a fuel smell coming from the tank filler neck. (I think the pump that was turned on there forced the neck a little while it was flowing). Did you change that part? And did the problem get solved? I would be glad if you could enlighten me. Have a nice day.
Happened to me a couple months ago. Entire house began to smell like fuel. Long story short, replaced filler neck and all was well.
Update; I also replaced the smelly fuel filler neck with a Ferrari improved part ( p/n : 316216) (about 2 hours of labour) and everything is fine now, it doesn't smell.
