    Hello family!

I have the gas odor coming into the cabin and did the engine smell test. Driver side is fine, passenger side smells of fuel.

From previous posts this looks to be either fuel pump, fuel lines or some unknown variable.

I plan on finding out and working on it myself.

2006 f430 coupe. If I need to buy parts is there a trusted site for the fuel pump items?

Additionally saw a YouTube video where somebody did a two part epoxy mix to seal the fuel pump crack at the top. Has anybody experimented with this?

There is an O ring, item 9 to seal the top of the pump which may be leaking. Otherwise i understand the top of the pump cracks with age. You also need a tool to un screw the top of the pump where it fits to the tank. Several on e bay/ amazon, just finding correct one.

I did the epoxy repair and it has held up perfectly for over two years.

The clear epoxy repair has lasted several years for me. I sealed mine before there were cracks.

Another thing to consider is that as the pumps get very old they can get weak. I have a 99 360 and it had the original pumps on it up till last year. I never had any problems with gas smell but decided to change them out. Out of curiosity I did a pressure test on both pumps after a long hard drive (hot hot engine bay). The pump on the left was unable to keep pressure under elevated rpm. It would just dance around between 20 and 60 psi (If I remember correctly) and looking at the gauge it looked like a seismograph. The right side was solid. But I changed both anyway and the driving experience improved greatly. So if you are going to dig into your pumps because of the fuel smell you should also check to see if your close to 20 year old pumps are able to keep their original capacity.

I tried the epoxy repair and it did not work. I replaced with new, not too expensive. Also the new pumps are an upgrade, different plastic. Yellow/orange colour not white. '06 you should have the flange plate on the tank where the pump goes in making it much easier to get out than my '07 which needed the tank to go rearwards somewhat to get the pump out.

I agree to just swap out the part and not do the epoxy. I did epoxy on passenger pump when I bought the car before any leak and it leaked later. Eurospares have them for so inexpensive and now replacing the driver side too.

Home water filter ~$13 is proper sized to remove/tighten the pumps. (check my old post on this)

Just curious, do spider owner's get the same smell or is it more difficult to tell due to the soft top?

Odd. I wonder if it’s because the routing is different or if there’s more heat or something they needed to protect against.

Spider tanks needed more room to stuff the top and mechanism. They were different from coupe. Fuel pumps were shorter.

Okay I’m going to go purchase the fuel pumps. Will do both. Is ricambi the best source you think?

Have a look at both superperformance and eurospares in the uk, you might get a good deal through the ex rate.
