I have never found the need to do it for my cars. I think i drive them enough for that not to be an issue.

But I have used it extensively in my motorcycles and boats. Stabil works great and they have a new ethanol formula.

In my use in the motorcycles, I have found the carbed bikes, the most prone to gumming up. The fuel injected bikes had much less of a problem. When I was lazy and didnt run stabil, i had bikes with problems in 2-3 months. When I religiously used Stabil, I had the same bikes sit for over 5 months with no issues.

For the boats, I always used the boat brand fuel stabilizers. I dunno why, I am sure Sta Bil will work jsut as well. I think its just cuz the boat branded ones (like EZ Stor n Start) come in bigger bottles, and my boat holds 300 gallons.

So, basically, yes I think they work. And I have had great success with the Sta Bil brand. Whether or not you need it for your car is another question.

Its not really necessary with modern gasoline, unless the car is going to be in storage for roughly a year or more. But no harm will come from using one.
