I've been experimenting with different brands of gasoline. I'd love to use ethanol-free gas but it's not available in 93 octane; non-branded 90 octane is available near me but I am hesitant to try it in fear of engine knock. Due to the different so-called additives (Chevron: Techron) and 'technologies' (Shell: nitrogen enriched) under which each major brand markets gas, I wonder if there's any real life differences among them. Love to hear from anyone's experiences with their 458, especially those who have tried ethanol-free 90, or 91 octane gas.

Try Sunoco unleaded 100 octane or V Racing 100 octane... or check in with 458 Trofeo.

I am using 91 octane ethanol-free gasoline in my 2013 458 Italia. There is a significantly smoother feel to the engine, as well as an approximately 15-20% increase in highway mileage using ethanol-free gas. There is no knocking. I would never pump ethanol gas into my car unless there was no other option.

Here is a link to stations that offer ethanol-free gasoline. Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

VP 101aki Streetblaze is my new fave, but the Sunoco GT 100 that Noblesse
    mentions works great!!

I stay away from Trick 100 or VP 100, Lola does not like it as much :)

I don't believe 100+ octane gas is street legal in GA where I live. No one sells it. My guess is that it may be available for racing on tracks only.

    I use Shell. 91 octane.

Please note: we are at 8k ft above sea level. Less octane is needed at altitude because the lack of oxygen makes the fuel burn slower anyway.

You bring out a good point about octane and altitude. Do you have any comment on Shell's V-power nitro+ gas and its performance?

When I'm in Atlanta, I buy it all the time from a Shell station in Alpharetta. It's pricey, but available right out of the pump just like all the other grades. I use a 50-50 mix with 93 premium in my old muscle cars that knock on straight premium without the timing severely retarded.

My Dad worked for Shell over 40 years. He thought their research was the best. I am not qualified to have an independent appraisal.
