    This topic has re-surfaced in GullWing Group and I've not noted around these threads...although I know must exisit in F-world/chat...I would appreciate a heads-up for octane, additives etc for '81 512 bb?? and earlier.

    I do not find the stock compression ratio to require anything beyond premium pump gas.

    And, with hardened valve seats, unleaded gasoline/E10 gasohol hasn't been reported as problematic for BB/BBi (if not left to separate ;)). What "issue(s)" is(are) the GullWing having with modern fuels?

    the motor is much smoother with a 50/50 blens of race gas and superunleaded. I find most cars run better whgen the alcohol content is below 5%. you can run on superuleaded, it just goes much better with a blend, same with my old motorcycle..

    There are some gas stations that are alcohol free. But sometimes hard to find. Google alcohol free gas stations.

    Not sure about the USA, but in Canada the premium grade at Esso and Shell is ethanol-free .. easy to find ... which is good.

    Here in NJ we can't get any gasoline without 10% ethanol. I use Aviation 100LL (100 octane, Low Lead, no ethanol) in my old motorcycles. I don't think that will be practical for a Boxer though.

    Have been burning non alcohol 92 oct gas in the 87 TR here in Oregon for the past 2 years. Cost 45 cents more but at least the fuel hoses are not degrading. Hope the high oct does not harm the momo. Any thoughts?

    i can get 110 oct at speedway i dont know if it is a good thing to put in my 86 TR.

    I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but that sucks!!!

    Don't you just hate it when the powers that be decide what's best for the general public and then enforce a "one size fits all" approach.

    Old cars are doomed with "Flex Fuel"... Ethanol.
    What we need is an additive that really works.
    Does Stabil for ethanol works ? I got some and I can't tell yet.

    I replace a fuel regulator on a Hot Rod, after one year that the car was parked, on three months... leaking again. Like if the rubber inside was decomposing.

    In the early Testarossa days (mid 80's) Petrol was 98 or 101 octane. I don't believe that there was any fuel hose problems at the time.

    i order a test kit that way i will know witch gas station will have less ethanol in it next time i get fuel for the TR at $30.00 kit will last a long time. some gas stations in ohio have less ethanol than others.

    aside from rubber hoses & bits degrading..the real issue is with the 300sl mechanical fuel injection pump. It will continue to 'inject' fuel after engine shut-down via ignitiom switch (key), w/c essentially 'washes' the crank/pistons/cylinder walls etc of residual oil/lubricant. Therefore, with modern fuels lacking much, if any, lubricating properties (read alcohol)...the 'fuels' hasten engine wear by 'cleaning' these components. I 'turn-off' my engine via clutch-stall while in 4th.....hard to tell which is more harmful!!
