Gated 1995 355 GTB Red/Nero, valve guides, major service, Tubi headers

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm test driving a '97 f355 (spider) tomorrow and the valve guides have not been done. (Headers and cats were replaced very early in the car's life.) I read on another post that if the valve guides have not been a problem, that they will not be a problem (that issue would have arisen much sooner). Is this true? Or are valve guides something that always need to be worried about? Second, would you all recommend leak down and compression tests? The Ferrari mechanic I'm using has 28 years experience and says he'll be able to "hear" if we need to do that or not. Thank you! And best of luck to the seller with his red beauty. It's impressive you did the PPI upfront, I wish all sellers did that!

 

The valve guides were uprated at the Fcatory, so he is correct, past a certain VIN they wear out "normally"...

"Normally" in Ferrari land is the half life of another car, or course!
