The anti-conversion, anti-aftermarket purists here are more sensitive than fuel injected 5000 QV Countach owners.
Mention the word 'downdraft' and they pee their pants in defense and arguments.

I love my EAG converted 599, and you will too.
The software upgrade was the big surprise, a game changer.
    Outstanding choice, and congrats.
Sorry it's not a "real" HGTE (elle oh elle).

I think the wheels throw you off due to the black trim. Ed Bolian's 599 wheels had similar paint trim, not exact but similar.

I'm not a 599 fan, but that spec is beautiful. Congratulations! I converted my F430 and regretted it down the line. Rev limiter was rendered inoperable as well as the e-diff. Had I known that was going to be the case, I never would have converted it but simply fixed the F1. I did sell the F430 at a profit, but long term maintenance of the system is problematic. I would check with your dealer to determine if they will service your car after conversion. Some dealers won't. As I understand it, the cables are specialty parts manufactured by the converters. What happens if you need to replace one say 5 years from now? Or the shift box? Because these are custom fabricated parts, the availability for replacement might be problematic in the future. Either way, good luck!

Me too. Jay Emm had previously reviewed Robin’s (@brogenville) gated six 612, another video worth watching if you haven’t already:

In today’s 599 video, Jay Emm says that Robin is the guy to see for your 599 conversions. Is it the case, @brogenville, that you have entered the F1 conversion business?

Hi Bill, I am indeed, though really I've been making parts for manual swaps for 5 years now, but I shied away from supplying complete kits until relatively recently. My kits are supplied under the brand Out of the Gate Ltd. www.ootg.co.uk - website still very much under construction.

[Mods - hopefully this doesn't violate any terms of use policies as I was responding directly to a question. If so, please delete it and you have my apologies.]

    Daniel,

I am not sure that it would bother me that much. The HGTE kit was mostly about handling and I think this has been achieved.

Here is my 599GTB - 2008 with Dealer Retrofit HGTE.

I have a lot of cars and I have driven nearly everything out there and I have to say that this 599 in Manual is right up there as one of the best cars I have ever driven!

    Hi Daniel

you are right. I did however find and have bought the dash carbon and carbon sills. I have to remove the dash to repair the shrinking leather , so I got these bits ready to go in.

The dash needs to be removed to add the carbon parts across the dash, which is why i think it was not done. Since I will be removing the dash to repair the leather, it makes sense to get the carbon done. I was lucky and sourced the original carbon parts from Exotic Auto Recycling in California.

Thanks your points a valid and I don’t have an answer. I am however going to be present at EAG for the install and they have kindly agreed to show me how it’s done so I have an idea and also how to do basic maintenance like make adjustments on cables if they stretch. I might buy a set of new cables and keep spare .

Actually I've proven this to be incorrect, after painstaking optimization work on the firmware for engine (its a huge difference in fact) that even rowing the gears yourself the car is still quantifiably faster as a gated car when combined with my latest work. So there really is no performance loss, the car is still faster. Of course its true that if you got my upgrades on an F1 its quicker still but the tactile involvement and enjoyment you get more than makes up for that. That didn't of course stop me improving the F1 shift speed too and actually when its improved many people enjoy the new found AMT shifting attitude so much better they aren't so in a rush to want to convert :)

I have fixed the firmware incompatibility issues with upgrades to HGTE spec now for all 599 assy numbers so if that's preventing someone taking the plunge get in touch with Sammyf on here for help.

Trev- Should have known you could fix that, just like my HGTC TCU is now compatible with vanilla Motronic ECUs.

@360trev does reprogramming the ecu with your HGTE spec affect any of California’s smog/check sum validations or does it just look completely factory?

I have a suspicion that with Trev’s intervention, your chances of passing CA smog are significantly better compared with a standard car. [emoji6]

I hope you're right. Last night my wife and I watched the latest Mission Impossible movie on Prime, "Dead Reckoning Part I." The storyline involves the IMF's efforts to disable "The Entity," a self-aware computer program which threatens to annihilate mankind. Why? It just doesn't like us, that's why. Owning and modifying special interest vehicles here in the Golden State, since the inception of the Smog Check regime in 1984, feels very much like this. The B.A.R. computer's operations are hidden and mysterious to us soft-bodied lifeforms, but it's real, it's really sniffing about in our ECUs, and it just doesn't like us.

About two years ago Our Masters in Sacramento decided it's not good enough that a vehicle passes a visual inspection; that there's no Check Engine Light; and that a hookup to the B.A.R. computer shows proper performance of all emissions systems. No, Our Masters decided that they also need to check for any mods to the ECU coding, whether it has any effect on tailpipe emissions or not. It has taken two years to get this new level of scrutiny underway, but now it seems to be up and running. In a recent episode of the "This! Car Pod" on Doug DeMuro's Youtube channel, one of the guys, a long-time owner of a BMW M5, shared the news that his community is reporting a lot of Smog Check fails arising from some kind of coding workaround that is commonly applied to the old M5s. They don't like us, they really don't like us. So I hope @360trev and his colleagues are able to make nice with this real life version of The Entity.

Hi All, I just wanted to give you an update. Got my 599 into EAG this week. They started the conversion straight away, no delays. The EAG team is knocking it out of the ball park. Amazing considerate team. Here is a montage of what’s been happening. They started Tuesday and including some unexpected maintenance items, It looks like this will be driving at the end of day 3.

I have never dealt with EAG previously. Met them for first time this week. What I will say is that my experience has been very positive and all the feedback and concerns you all had for me to use EAG, just did not materialize.
