Gauge differences for different markets

    My water temperature and oil pressure gauges are becoming foggy, looking for replacement recently. Then I noticed the RHD cars use different part numbers for the gauges, see items 4, 5, 9 and 13. Copy of euro QV manual below.

    But I don't really understand why it's necessary to distinguish the gauges for RHD cars. The mechanism should be the same... And the listings on a number of ads I checked also points to the differences.

    Then I noticed the part number for the gauges for RHD cars are actually the same as those for US cars! Copy of US QV manual below.

    So, are the differences just the faces being different or there are other differences? Look at the fuel gauge with difference faces (#116958) below, all using the same part number.

    Well, if I have to get one now, just pick one with the correct face I guess? What about the chrome ring, some has it some not?

    EDIT: the last picture should be a GT4 fuel gauge and that's not appropriate for this thread.

    The 308 models have chrome rings. The 328's don't have them.

    Two points:

    - US and UK/commonwealth gauges would be the same (as already commented on by sebino81) due to the units used.

    - If the gauges are still working, then why not simply have them disassembled and cleaned?

    Send them to North Hollywood Speedometer - I've had gauges renovated by them a couple of times and they turn around within a week (from here in Taiwan!) and they come back like new. Never used them for my Fcars but they have been good on everything else.

    Gauge with letter are for carbureted car or very early US injection 2v with vertical console.
    Then the gauge are with symbol (first picture post). So a QV should have symbol gauge.

    Good suggestion! Will consider their service in due course as all my gauges are working properly and not need to be replaced. Thanks!

    The 328 gauges are totally different as well. I've seen pictures of the 308 type without the chrome ring, possibly just the angle of the pictures though.

    I see. Just one more thing, I've found another type with word but not in English. So what market is this type for? Eurospares lists it's from a 308 in the Netherlands.

    It was explained by sebino81
    - ref for carb UK-US market with letter in english and °F until end oct 80
    - ref for carb of the rest of the world with letter in Italian and °C end oct 80
    -ref with symbol from nov 80 for all model with °C or °F depending the market (like for carbs) except for fuel which is the same.

    I think all of the non-UK early Euro cars were instrumented in Italian text. At least my French-delivered '77 GTB was. Can't imagine if my fuel guage said "essence"...I just couldn't drive it that way!

    You're right, only two type of language for the typo. Italian and English.
