Gave up my allocation and cancelled my order.

The journey continues ....

Yesterday I got a call from my dealer. He now had an indication of price for the Canadian market (base price at around $250,000) and was ready to take my deposit to get the first allocation in Canada. I could be driving the car by early summer! BUT, by the time you add on some options, pay the taxes, green levy, etc. etc your pushing close to $300,000.

I could still easily write the cheque for it... but I just don't think that car is worth that money. From what I've seen and read (which is quite a lot) I really LIKE the car. But for $300 large I want to LOVE the car. I"ve decided to pass on the California.

Think I'll capitalize on the economy... there are starting to be a lot of great deals out there for people with cash

 

$300k for a California ? That is madness. You can get a nice 599 for that money..Or a Stradale and a 360 Spider..or a Daytona .

Shame... of course i understand why you backed out. Are you going to replace it with anything inperticular? or just looking to see what's around?

 

How much is a f430 coupe in Canada?

 

The base F430 coupe (6 speed) is around $240,000 CDN. The California is just above it base at around $250,000 CDN plus everything else.

Funny how the mind works. If the car was $200,000 CDN or less I'd be writing a cheque now. I can AFFORD it... but I just don't think the California is WORTH what they are asking.

I'm sniffing for bargains in this economy. Might pick up a 360 spider or a 430 coupe (waiting a little longer for that to come down) as people have overextended themselves and are shedding the "luxuries". Looking at a lake property as well as nothing is moving out there and I hope bargains soon start popping up.

 

Remember that's CDN dollars which are worth about .75 of a USD dollar in this economy. Few months ago it was $1.10!

 

Very 'apples to oranges', but for that kind of money, I'd be piloting a Stradale with a briefcase full of $20's in the passenger seat...

 

I thought Ferrari was going to price the California about 10K less that the F430 coupe. Maybe they have higher production costs with the California than the F430. But also remember that Ferrari generally raises the price year after year. Perhaps demand is strong so they feel comfortable with aggressive pricing.

 

Maybe they want to keep the waiting list real short.

 

This is what I've been saying for the past few weeks. No way anyone is going to take the car at the prices their asking considering the prices of 430 spiders today!

But the prices are still relative in that the California will have a base above the current F430 coupes and will be more expensive than lightly used F430 Spiders... No matter what currency, that doesn't sound like a recipe for success...

 

In a conversation with the local Ferrari dealer I was told the allocation for the first year of the California "may" be sold out but that there are spots after that time.

An interesting revelation indeed.

That model may not sell well with worldwide demand dropping for most high end cars.

 

'may' - spin for we have more on hand than we planned.

Lets hope not, I think this car is very very good. Its a great compliment to the line Ferrari offers.

 

I think the car will sell but not at a furious pace or at a premium.

I would definitely buy one, because I like it and my bride car drive it w/o fear. She will not touch the 360.

The car's appeal to her is very indicative of the market Ferrari is seeking!

 

Here's hoping Ferrari does not cross their feet to save bullets on the California. Nice car and I like it, but no way worth a premium over a 430 or its successor.

I like the appeal you mention from a marketing perspective. Ferrari promote a product and a lifestyle with it. She will have many smiles for you and the car. Enjoy it as life is short and unpredictable, as these times again prove

 

Like the 612 Ferrari will make just enough to keep the Few Interested Customers waiting in line.. much like the door man at the night club.. "...the longer the line the more successful we look."

 

I don't get it. There is no way on God's earth that a Cali is going to hold it's value. None. If you want one, do yourself a favor and buy a nearly new one for 30% off MSRP.

 

That's alot of money for an entry level car. 430 is more than a bargin at that rate.

 

Sounds like they're trying to maximize profit from the early "Must Haves". Once those buyers are gone prices should drop.

 

Very true and I wonder how the "must haves" feel now about paying $150- $200K over sticker for a 599?
