Hi All I have a 355 F1 that has had some gearbox issues, after replacing the clutch, we was unable to select any gears at all.It was ok before the clutch was replaced.
I have taken it to a Ferrari specialist in Sheffield who has managed to get all forward gears now but for some reason cant fix selection of reverse, if you go under the car with ignition off and select it, it goes in, so has no maniacal reason stopping it. ultimately the question is can anybody recommend someone that is really switched on with the electronics behind the gear change mechanism
    thanks in anticipation
    Tony

Welcome - you could maybe talk to one of the specialists near Manchester: AE or R&D or a little further South: Shiltech

Then there must be a sane reason ... :D

Seems odd that the problem started after the clutch change, but maybe something hasn't been put back correctly or the system hasn't been bled properly.

Just to make sure that nothing else has broken:

Does the instrument display show "R"? Do your reverse lights illuminate?

Has the specialist checked the EV5 solenoid valve?

Do Low Friction and Auto modes work?

    Hi
No it just sits in n and wont select reverse the reverse lights dont illuminate havent tried the low friction light as when it went to the specialist it had no gears at all so he has rectified the forward gears with what ever he has done. the actuator has been off and tested so it has tobe electrical

    cheers

I was earlier thinking (theorising) that if the gear wasn't displayed, then maybe the problem was further upstream (e.g. the reverse selector itself or the TCU). However, feedback from the gearbox (selector mechanism) may be required before the correct gear appears on the display (1~6, R, N).

Not knowing what has been disturbed, I would at least check that the EV5 solenoid on the power unit (which is responsible for selecting reverse) is getting a voltage from the TCU when reverse has been selected. If it is getting the correct voltage, then perhaps the problem is with EV5 itself or the power unit is having problems hydraulically moving the mechanical parts. If there is no voltage, then the problem is definitely upstream (TCU, reverse lever, etc) or there is some kind of faulty sensor.

Does your technician have a wiring diagram? Here's one of mine:

    Fig12a_F355F1WiringSchematic

Does he have the official Ferrari diagnostic tools? Is the TCU not showing any faults?

Yeah When I got my F1 car the Reverse selector switch was broken it did select reverse but it was broken. Replaced it with the Hill engineering part.

Forgive me as I didn't make a full repair video. Just when I first was looking at it
the little slide with the R on it was shifted out of the way but I got it fixed.

You should have to lift it up and pull it back to select Reverse.

If it works mechanically, then there is an electrical disconnect.

You make sure the reverse switch works with an ohm meter.

The SD computer should be able to check the EV5 solenoid.....but checking the wiring to that solenoid would be a good place to look first.

Like Johnny, I replaced my reverse lever a year or so back as it was inconsistent.

I've just noticed in photos that the plug on the gear selection panel only has 7 pins.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

The wiring diagram shows pin numbering 1 to 11 (7 used). I guess you'd have to go by wire colour when checking the reverse switch (pink and black).

Would anyone have a picture of the plug (car side)?
