Hello all. New to Ferrari, and to this forum. Just bought a 2012 FF, and had a few issues already.. On my way home, about 400km, I got "start/stop failure" first. Stopped the car for a few minutes, and gone when starting again. After some time it came back. Then, when stopping for, an obligatory, picture, pulled both gear levers to go into neutral, and suddenly an "engine failure, contact dealership" occurred. Car ran just fine, no clear issues, but didn't want to give full throttle to test just in case. Drove at moderate speed towards home, and car seemed fine. Just before destination, the car wouldn't shift to 7th gear.. There's a new gearbox in it, so should be fine. Talked to seller, and he ment that it could have to do with the battery, as the car have been standing at the car dealership for about 5 months, and have only been moved slightly from time to time. Not on battery tender for most of the time. Sorry, but I have no clue about these feisty Italians , but a little bit stressed now. Also sorry about bad formulation, as English is not my first language. Thanks for any help, and comfort , in advance. Stig
sounds like the battery, if its been sitting for a long time I'd start with the battery first, easy fix, you can do it yourself even.
Yes, whenever you get those error messages and yet the car runs fine, it is almost certainly a weak battery. However, I don't think the car not going into 7th gear is a battery issue.
Thanks for replys. I did put the car on a battery tender over night, and the issues got better. Seems like it was about the battery. The 7'th gear issues seems to be totally because I'm a noob haha.. After getting the engine light, I was careful driving, that I was probably going too slow for the car to wanna go into 7th (hits myself in the forehead). My first time in a Ferrari, so have no idea about what to expect. Thank you again for replying!
For what it is worth, I had a similar issue. When people here told me it was the battery, I thought they were crazy. Gear issues and engine failure notifications caused by the battery? One new battery later, and all is well. There is wisdom among the crazy...
Thanks buddy. I did give the battery a good old charge, and the car magically fixed itself Chech engine light disappeared 20 mins into a drive, and have not been seen since. Still trying to get used to the, somewhat, nervous world of Ferrari.
