Hi Chaps I have been aware recently of a rattle from my gear lever when in third which wasn't there when I bought the car. It has been in for a service, and afterwards the service manager told me over the phone (as it was collected by the guy who is now selling the car on my behalf) that the proper repair, by replacement of the metal-to-metal bush, would cost 5 or 6 hundred pounds, but he told me that it is possible to improve the situation by inserting an old pound coin (as opposed to the new 13 sided coin) into the mechanism. He did try to describe how and where that's done, but as I have no previous knowledge of how it works I couldn't follow what he said, but I immediately thought that must be why I found a 10 franc coin (the exact same size) under the centre console when I took it up to de-sticky it and investigate the HAVC control. Has this fix been described on this forum before (I did a search but didn't find anything) or can someone describe the fix to me? (I say 'fix' - I know it's not a proper fix, but if it helps reduce the rattle I would be pleased). Thanks Andrew
That leaves out the US. We have no 10 franc or pound coins. The proper fix is to replace the bushings.
something is fishy! If they can do an engine out timing belt service for $2500, than why does it cost 600 sterling pounds to change a bushing?
