My Mondial T has been away having the gearbox rebuilt and the clutch replaced etc

I have just been out to feel the 'new' gearbox and the gear lever will spring back to the centre of the gate from the 1st/reverse side, but it won't spring back from the 4th/5th side. Is there a separate return spring for both sides? Maybe it's just still from lack of use?

I'm not familiar with the 'T' setup, but after rebuilding my 308 box I had the same issue. I resolved it by eventually tracking the issue down to the shift rod between gear stick and gearbox being installed 180' out.Flipped it around and problem fixed

Mondial T is a cable system. The spring return is in the shift handle assemble. It may be the shift cable adjustments. Having it rebuilt and installed, I would start there. I have done a few of those (348 is the same) and I always have to adjust the cable set up to get the best shifting. Wit a rebuild, all of the shift forks are out and never go back exactly as before. So the cable needs a tweak or two.
You can disconnect the cable at the box and see if the shifter springs both ways. that will tell you where to look next.

Thanks Wade. The shifter is starting to loosen up a bit, and does now spring back from both sides. However, the spring loading isn't always sufficient to get the gear lever in position slot into 3rd gear. 4th to 3rd can take some care.

Please can you tell me where the cable adjustments can be made?
