Hi all.. is it normal for the thread at the top of the gearlever to be visible beneath the ball? It seems like a fault on my car, but is remarkably tactile and irresistible to my fingers as I change gear ... a bit like picking a scab!

Christopher- You can play with the jam nut just like the threads, without the possibility of cutting your fingers. Part number 108010, same one used from the 308 through the 599. Around $25.

Did you try loosening the jam nut and adjusting down?

With so much thread exposed, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off. Just find a spanner that fits the jam nut and, as Ryan says, adjust down... until there is almost no thread exposed. Then wind the ball down to meet the jam nut, then retighten the nut against the ball.

Definitely not rocket science. Perhaps the previous owner was tall and needed the extra stick length?

Mine is the same way. I didn’t screw-in down farther because it has a crack in it and it seems like the further I screw it down the more the crack opens up, of course mine is plastic but it’s original and in good shape so I don’t want to mess it up.
