    Hello Group,

Sorry for posting a Mondial t question in the 348 Forum, but it appears as though there is a lot of insight on gear shifting and transmissions here.

My question may be pre-emptive as this only occasionally occurs since I had my cable adjusted and replaced the transmission oil. HOWEVER, when I first got the car, the following was occurring:
    1. Gear selection was balky and it was difficult to shift into 3rd. Occasionally, I simply could not select third gear with the shifter.
    2. When the shifter was in 1st gear, it occasionally felt as though the car was in 3rd. When taking off from start I could tell. I would simply disengage, go into neutral and then back to first and this would be effective in re-engaging 1st gear.
    3. On a downshift, when going from 4th to 3rd, it would feel like I was in 5th gear (engine RPM's would decrease).

Someone eluded to the fact that the 'fork' may be an issue.
Again, I have driven the car since the oil and cables were adjusted and it only happened a couple of times. Seems to get better the more I drove the car.

    Thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Bruno Vendittelli

The cables are likely not properly mounted in the bracket that is bolted to the side of the motor. Many times I have found that the grooves in the cables were not pressed into the bracket correctly.

I agree with bruce simply because if it was in the transmission such as syncros or a bent fork my experience shiwed it was not intermittent but would happen most of the time. Maybe a mechanic will speak up.

Have your shift cables ever been lubed? If not, might be worth doing and in doing so you'll be checking that all the fittings are in their proper locations. I don't know how it works for your model, but here's a video on how to do it for the 348

If still problems it might be worth trying adjusting the cables. Loosen the lock nuts at the clevis forks at one end of the cables and try turning each of the forks individually a 1/2 turn at a time in or out and see if things get better or worse. Be sure to keep track of number of turns and which direction, so you can always get back to where you started from so things don't get screwed up. A half or whole turn of those little forks can make a huge difference in shift feel.
