When I meant stuck between gears, I meant the actuator. So the gearbox may be in 3rd, and the actuator is stuck on the wrong side of the slot, so the car is stuck in whichever gear and the actuator cannot move. You will only know when you're all taken apart.

Secondly, when you changed the bearings, did you ensure the shafts are all aligned correctly? There are spacers right after the bearings, which need to be changed to fit whichever tolerances are specified in the manual. Just changing the bearings may result in misalignment.

Ok, so it is possible that im am stuck betwen gears then. The front plate, the one between the engine and gearbox has to come off to fix this right?

As i remeber it, there was only a spacer on one of the bearings. Both bearings had the updated part no. like the ones i replaced it with, and I cheked the dimensions which was 100% alike. I then just changed the bearings.

    The layshaft
    http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=1&Mo=693&A=1&B=41182&S=
Part 33 is a spacer in thicknesses from 2.5mm to 2.9mm in .1mm steps.

    The mainshaft

Part 29 is a spacer in thickness of 1.8mm

Depending on the variance of the gearboxes there are different spacer sets available. I am making he assumption you don't have an SS 348 or a last year edition.

You can get interference between synchros and gears if way off. Since you have "no" spacer on one shaft, you may be way off.

Have you got the workshop manual? I have one in .pdf form that I can put on an ftp server for you or cut on a CD-rom and send it to Århus...

If you need it, send me your address by private message and I'll send it to you.

Ok. Hmm I think there is so many possible issues here now. Since the new bearings are excatly like the old ones( same part no, dimensions etc) I figured I could just replace the bearings. Afterall the gearbox shifted fine and all, up untill the bearing failed.

    lars,

sounds like when you disconnected the shift linkage, you inadvertantly move the shift rod out of the linkage for the forks (part #30 in the diagram).

I would try removing the shift linkage and move the shift rod that goes into the case, maybe you can by feel, find the linkage for the shift forks again and relocate. if you cannot, you must remove the gearbox, remove the front cover and relocate it.

I have gotten very good at doing it without removing the box.

    Best regards, Jim
