A couple of weeks ago I was at a car meeting. When I started for home I drove about half a mile and then the engine just died. When I turned the key the warning light for the gearbox was lit and there was a warning buzz tone. When I procceded to start the engine it started and did run att low revs for a couple of seconds the it died again. tried to change gear with just the ignition on but nothing happened. Checked the oil level and that the pump was running when I opend the door, both things were ok. Also tried to cut battery power but no difference. Any ideas? The car is a 99 360 F1.

Do you know if the car has had the variator upgrade or tensioner? Hopefully one of your variators didn't break or the left hand tensioner.

You need to get your codes read before cutting battery power.
