    Big chunks of hard aluminum salts blocking the crossover pipe. One chunk from the other side apparently broke off and was partially blocking the t-stat, which as it would move around, the temp would go up, or down.

    This apparently formed while the car sat for 14 years. Aluminum is getting welded back onto the heads where the corrosion occurred.
