...starting tonight at the United Center. "I can hear it calling in the air tonight. Hold on. I've been waiting for this moment all my life." Image Unavailable, Please Login
YES and we're going. So Andreas dress up and meet us at the United Center and bring the car! You can go as Tubs this time. I'm Crockett.
"In the air tonight" was written and performed by Phil Collins as a solo artist, Genesis had nothing to do with it, and its not on their current set-list. They haven't played it yet on tour! "Tonight, tonight, tonight" was a killer Genesis song that they are performing, I am going to see them next week. Have fun but don't be bummed when they don't play "In the air tonight".
Actually, rumor has it that that song is a discarded/rejected Genesis song that Phil worked over a little bit. Not sure how much truth there is to that rumor. Phil denies it, but what would you expect?
Anything is possible, but I read that Phil wrote the song after he witnessed a murder, also Banks, Rutherford and Collins have a very candid and close relationship with each other. I can't see Collins taking credit for something he didn't do.......he has nothing but praise and respect for his Genesis bandmates including Gabriel. Collins is a straight up , no b*llsh*t type of guy and has always given Banks and Rutherford their time in the spotlight while doing interviews for Genesis.
Well all I can say is WOW. Phil and the rest of Genesis put on a great show. They always seem to me to have the best lighting of any group and I've seen a lot. They are still as good as when i first saw them in 75? They played a lot of classic Genesis. For those going enjoy the drum duet starting on a set of bar stools - Unbelievable!!!!!!
We had dinner at Carmichael's, which is not only a great steak house, but has shuttle transfer to the United after the meal. Enjoy the pics, it was simply awesome. And as of today my hearing has returned. Mostly. So Andrea how did you like the show? Ok moving on to the next concert - Who's going to Van Halen on Thursday? Anyone care to meet for dinner? Let me know.
First off I liked the civilized way rock concerts have become: As a teenager I was squeezed in with thousands of people in the middle of a wet soccer field jumping up and down in delirium. Here you arrive by limo, get a glass of cooled Chardonnay at the bar, walk to your numbered seat and sit down. As John Lennon once said: "The folks on the balcony can jiggle their jewelry for applause." Or something like that. It is not unlike F1 watching as a spectator has changed from the seventies to today. Regarding the show as always it was way too loud. If you have to put Kleenex in your ears to live through it, then you miss out on the overall sound. The stage itself was cool and I liked the jumbotrons. Not sure I was totally happy with all the graphics: I loved the pics from way back when and the lava lamp effects. But they also had (deliberately I'd think) "retro CGI", which was not so hot IMHO: I remember that screensaver "sticks" from MS-DOS. It was cool back then. It is not so hot in the 21st century. Similar comment for the runner and the dominos. The music was about as expected: I'm not a die hard Genesis fan. I consider them one of the super bands from the time and totally go for some of their songs (Son of mine, Tonight tonight tonight etc), but honestly about half of their songs don't excite me. That ratio at the concert was about 66% (great) to 33% (soso). As Karen said: It'd had been great if the 33% had been filled up with Phil Collins songs. So would I recommend it? Definitely. Was it the greatest concert ever? No. That honor would go to ELP anyhow.
Hey Andreas, Funny you bring this up, my girlfriend had a chance to get us tickets for the wednesday night concert, but we decided not to go, both of us had a crazy week at work. Also, we have eaten a couple times at that Carmichael's. and YES, GREAT STEAKS! MMMMM Now i am hungry and will have to go back there!!! Other places on my restraunt recomend list in the city is Smoke Daddy's (GREAT BBQ RIBs) and Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders ( GREAT POT PIE PIZZAs) Looks like it was fun, great pictures..... Almost like the Police concert earlier this year at Wrigley....... Tod
Concert-going hasn't really changed so much as the concerts you go to. If you had the money as a teenager, you would have hired the limo and sipped Chardonay. I think as we get older we just have less interest in getting knocked around at a concert. Plus, that isn't really the demographic of a Genesis concert circa 2007, nor was it ever.I saw Genesis at the Rosemont Horizon in '83 when they toured for Abacab, and it wasn't exactly a raucous affair. (I drank waaaay too much and was probably one of the problems) Any given night at the Metro, Vic or Aragon (as well as countless smaller clubs/bars) you can pack into a high-energy show that dispenses with the personal comforts of an arena reunion show.
