So I'm supposed to speak with Mr. Barris reguarding his collection that is being auctioned off Saturday May 14 at the Petterson Museum, tomorrow. As it turns out I'm going to be in Las Vegas...
Anyway would anyone be interested in meeting Mr. Barris tomorrow either 10am-12pm or 6pm-8pm? If so pm me for more details. I know this is very last minute, but you never know.

    Thanks,
    Tiff

PS. Person must be able to write about what they see and hear, as well as show up on time downtown LA. I've already gone to take pictures. I'll post a couple here.

You may want to be careful about considering buying any of these cars.

For example: part of Barris' collection at Petersen will include several cars from The Fast and The Furious projects...Barris bought these cars from Universal and had ZERO input in their assembly, construction or even their design. Yet in numerous interviews, he claimed a great deal more input and responsibility than that. He tried to buy my orange Supra, the car I designed and built, and wanted me to disavow all knowledge of the car. In this case, Mr. Barris would not be in a position to discuss the history of these cars, as he never spent a day on set...I know, because I was on set everyday.

After the original movie came out and it was a car movie that DIDN'T involve him, he came up with a company called "Faster and More Furious F/X," a company that made really tasteless body kits for cars, and in my opinion, he was trying to capitalize on the fame.

His ego couldn't handle not being involved in the movie, so he spent the next couple of years looking for a way to get some of that thunder...the answer came when he bought up some of the left over stunt cars from the set of 2 Fast 2 Furious. These cars will be at this auction.

Let us also not forget the Batmobile debacle, where he offered up for auction a car that the auctionining house had allegedly represented as an original Batmobile....problem was, his car was built on a Torino chassis dated some 7 years after the last Batman episode aired on TV. This debacle was reported in several issues of Autoweek about three years ago. Here's one of the stories relating to it: http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=147

Here's whee the auction house bought it back, much to their credit:

Few people know that it was actually George's brother who was the craftsman who built some of these cars you may know and fewer still know the true inside stories behind many of these cars. He may own some of them now, but beyond that, he had little to do with many of them.

Of course, these are just the opinions of a person fairly close to many of these projects...my advice:buyer beware.

yeah I'm not sure about buying any of these cars, I'm just asking if anyone wants to meet the man. Cause I was supposed to interview him tomorrow. I really don't know anything about the auction part.

Matty are you going to the challenge? I'm leaving Sunday back to LA.

I just came back from a charity event at the Peterson. The Barris cars look like a lot of fun, camp.
It was way cool to see the 430 coupe go up at auction. Very yellow and way cool. Way to go go Auto Gallery and Jeffrey.

I've met Barris and seen the cars.. while he might have had some street cred in the mid 60's, that's been gone longer than Herman Munster in the double-speed drag race filmed way back when..

I can appreciate the era-specific cars for what they are, but the rest are just riding on coat-tails (i.e. anyone like Craig). The Delorean is really pushing it.

AFIW Craig, at least take some solace in the fact that I showed my g/f the PCH/355 scene the other week and she throughly enjoyed it. I even bellowed "MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD PAL.. FERRARI!" as I pulled up to the very same light and revved my LT1 for all it's worth.

The Mormon's driving the Dodge Caravan weren't impressed, but at least I blew them off in FNF fashion and left some 13" wide black streaks in my wake while dis-engaging my t-tops at 80mph. An HOUR wait for our afternoon lunch at Neptune's Net followed.. I REALLY need to *****-slap you for that, if anything!

Atta boy! Just remember...I didn't write that stuff, I just helped them build the rice rockets and find all of the cars. Here's a fun piece of trivia: the dude driving the Ferrari was Neal Moritz, Producer of many movies, including both TF & TF works, + others like Cruel Intentions. Very cool guy. And for the record: my Supra was WAY faster than that Ferrari.
