George Shelley passed away last Tuesday at age 88. George was a long-time Ferrari enthusiast and collector going back to the 1960s, including 0532 and 1627GT. He and I were good friends for the past 25 years or so, and I never knew him to be without a smile, or a joke or story loaded up and ready to tell. His automotive interests weren't limited to Ferraris; he also had Jaguars, a 300SL, Kurtis, Porsches, Indy cars, midget racers, a wonderful Cisitalia, and many others. He was a fixture for many years at Amelia Island and other shows, as well as many tours in the U.S., and the Mille Miglia Storica. George also had an extensive collection of automotive art, books and memorabilia.

He will be missed. Sincere condolences to George's family and many friends.

As they say, "A life well-lived!"
My sympathies to Olivia. George was the life of the party!

According to the funeral home, no public service. Too bad, because George would have enjoyed it if it turned into a posthumous "roast."
Well, it saves me the time I would have spent going thru old negatives to print-up for the reception.

It really is a shame. George was a very gregarious guy. It's too bad his friends won't be able to say goodbye.

RIP Mr. Shelley. I never knew him but I have known 1627GT since it was listed on Ebay a few years ago.

Sounds like he was a real car guy, from before the days when cars were just another asset in a portfolio.

Unfortunately, no. All I recall is that it was Italian. I'm trying to find a shot that I have with George sitting in the 121LM.

I had the good fortune of transacting 0532 LM some years back.

Funny enough, 1627 GT is in the ownership a current Formula One driver.
