I am thinking about purchasing a 308 QV from out of state and am worried about the emissions requirements for Fulton County in Georgia. The car would be coming from a state without emissions requirements and does not have a catalytic converters. I looked at the cleanairforce website and it seems the emissions requirements where I live could be a real problem for a euro version car. Does anyone out there have some advice for me?
    Thanks,
    Pete

do the regulations go back that far? thought there war a 20 yr limit on emissions....i may be wrong

anyway--only atlanta area counties require emissions--register it somewhere else... have any relatives in macon, augusta, columbus--etc...

I bought my '85' Euro 308 GTS QV from a doctor in Atlanta almost 3 years ago and (if I remember correctly) he had it registered in Putnam county.

What year is it? I also thought they only went back 20 years in Fulton and Dekalb.

if it has the EPA release it should be exempt here anyway, i was under the impression that euro spec cars with papers are not required to be tested here in GA. i am exempt where i am at....... and i have a spare stall in the garage if you need to "say" its here ! :) i have all the crap i took off my 77. guess i should hold on to that stuff in case the laws change.

25 year old or older vehicles do not have to be tested in the Georgia counties that have emission testing. But, if the car is less than 25 years old it does have to be tested reqardless of whether it is a euro-spec with an EPA compliance letter or a US-spec car.

Do you have an option of registering it in another county where emissions testing is not required?

Thanks for all the replies. I have been talking with the EPD and clean air waivers offices and it looks like if I want to buy one of these euro cars and register it in Fulton County I would have to get it tested. I could get a waiver for the lack of cat. converters but if it does not pass emissions I would be out of luck. My other alternative is to quote "store" the vehcile in another county but according to the tax offices you must register the vehicle in the county in which you reside, not the one in which the vehicle resides.

I supposed my other alternative is to attempt to temporarily modify the vehicle so it would pass the emissions requirements. I have no idea how that would be done or if that is even possible. Any further suggestions would be appreciated,
    Pete

A non cat car will pass emissions if properly tuned to do so.............

I have two non cat cars.........they passed before becoming exempt, here.

They do have to be operating properly with no wishful thinking....then you take them in HOT and pass the test!!!!!!!

US vs. Euro is not the issue...the tailpipe sniffer is the issue!

We use an analyzer better than the State's to preset the carbs........

I wouldn't rouse the Waivers Office too much, were I in your shoes.......

If your VIN 'Fails" more than once you are asking for trouble....the waiver is for troublesome old cars...you don't want to be on that list......

What year is it? If you have a second home in an area that doesn't require emissions testing you can register it there...or at a relative's home ect... I did that with my former TR and had no problem with the state or county.
