Just trying to see how many F-chatters are considering going to the show this weekend. I've never gone to this show, but I've heard great things about it. Maybe we could do a meet and drive down together, possibly some exit off 400?

In the past we have tried traveling together from Perimeter Mall, more successful in some years than others. I intend to do the same thing this year.

If interested, meet me in the Perimeter Mall lot at the northwest corner of Ashford-Dunwoody Road and Hammond Drive. We will leave at 9:40 sharp.

We usually take I-285 to I-75, but in light of the recent weekend construction that had had I-75 tied up in knots, I think that this year we should take GA-400. In that case, it will save time to have 50 cents exact change for the toll plaza (unless you have a cruise card, that is). We'll make the route decision on Saturday.

Weather forecast as of now is for sunny but chilly weather, which should be fine. This is always a fun show and I'm looking forward to doing it for the sixth time.

Just a reminder. The weather forecast is still good (no snow!).

See you at Perimeter Mall, or at the show?

After a week of cruddy weather, we were owed this one. A glorious day for a car show, only spoiled a little by the gusty winds, which blew down most of the signs and some of the tents at the show, and also blew a lot of junk off of the trees and into the cars!

Only Jack Dowling accepted my offer of a "caravan" down from Perimeter Mall, and showed up there with his red Mangusta. As Jack hadn't been to this show before, he followed me on down; it's nice to have a red "goose" in the rear-view mirror!

Here, as a teaser, are the three pics that I shot at Perimeter, followed by one of the more bizarre cars (?) at the show, something called a Zing. Also, a neat display of three nearly-identical older Ducatis, finished in the appropriate colors of red, white and green!

    More pics to come tomorrow.

Since I-75 was a mess south of I-285, even at 8:30, I stuck to the plan of taking GA-400, paying our 50 cent tolls, and having a smooth drive to North Avenue, arriving at the show site just after the advertised entry time of 10:00.

In past years the "exotics" had been parked along the far curb, but this year we were parked in the rows with our car classes, which meant that Jack and I were in separate rows. I parked next to a splendid red & white Ford GT that would go on to win the class; Rick, Tom and Vince arrived a little later and parked at the east end of the row. Rick's Khamsin would take second in class, while Jack's Mangusta took third in his class.

The Jim Ellis dealerships were opposite our row and brought a Carrera GT and an Audi R8. The "Modified" class included a Lexus LFA (though I don't know what was "modified"), a Hennessy twin-turbo Viper and a Porsche 996 GT2. So there were plenty of exotics and near-exotics on the premises. Here are some of them:

Our old parking place along the far curb was reserved this time for the old-timers. Will the real "Ramblin' Wreck" please beep its horn? (I believe the first one is the real one.)

And that bulldog sitting behind the blue car is not a prop, it's a real dog! Wearing a UGA collar, too, which might be dangerous in that location.

As usual, the area behind the parking deck was reserved for the "green" cars and the racing cars, which always results in the interesting, the inspired, and the frankly weird! A Tesla was there, as was a Chevy Volt and a Brabus Smart. How about a VW diesel that runs on vegetable oil? Oh yes, and "Our Lady of Perpetual Downforce" (aka the Cessna Civic).

To me, the most impressive club gathering was from the local chapter of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, which brought 7 Hudsons ranging from a 1941 Commodore to a 1956 Metropolitan. (I had seen Nash Metropolitans before, but never one badged as a Hudson.)

This included four of the famous "step-down" cars (like Doc Hudson): a Wasp, two Hornets, and a clapped-out car described as a "Whore-net". (I won't go any further with that one!) There was also a 1955 model which was really a Nash trimmed out with Hudson grille and trim, a car often derisively called a "Hash". (But it was better looking than the 1956 and 1957 models which would bring the curtain down on the marque!)

For variety, I've included the two Rolls-Royces that were there, and more of the motorcycles, including another shot of the Three Ducatis. (Something like the Three Tenors, perhaps? :D)
