Does it weigh 10,000 pounds yet? The E36 philosphy of a balanced agile car went out the window in favor of all hp. No wonder they are dropping the slogan "the ultimate driving machine" as seen in this article http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/07/bmw-drops-ultimate-driving-machine/ Soon they will catch up to lexus if they keep it up.
Lighter weight with adequate power and impressive handling and brakes. It is a concept few car makers abide by today. One reason I ended up with an Elise (although it could use a lil more in the pony department).
I'll say this much for it, though: At least it has a clutch and a real gearbox. These days, it seems Porsche and BMW are the only european car builders left who get the simple concept that this is a good thing.
ummm....what about audi? Well I guess you said Porsche. But I agree, what ever happened to having a manual transmission? In my day we had to shift gears if we wanted to go faster
i think that is a pretty decent design. i am not happy with the front intake, but it could have been worse. i am sure the rims will change by production, as those are the ZCP rims with it looks like dark shadow chrome paint. all and all it is not that bad.
The rear is just to boring looking for me. I am glad that it does have a regular manual in it though.
alright i'm glad to see someone unbiased thinks the same thing. I thought I hated the look because i have the old one. I can't stand that growth on the hood, I mean the e46's is subtle, this thing is like one of those ebay add ons. My next car definately wont be that thing, 360 or m5 all the way
Shivam- please refrain from picking on BMW - I take personal offense to this. The new M3 is a great design and is going to drive better than anything on the road in its class- watch out mr. audi, another BMW has just passed you.
hey hey flappies are a great thing for people such as myself. i can't drive stick but I love performance cars
lol, BMW has surpassed audi with a car thats at least 4 years newer than the current S4? If we are gonna compare, compare apples to apples. I would still bet an S4 could take a M3 around a track. An RS4 would also take the M3 around a track. Proof...... you got it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=rzGBSvyuUwg BMW is terrible these days. They made amazing cars back in the day. I was so die hard BMW, but their deisgn and quality is just terrible these days. Im sorry but its not the ultimate driving machine anymore. P.S. Its not all that bad, i renewed my BMWCCA membership this year
There's nothing wrong with AWD on a rally car, or SUV, or even a performance-luxury sedan. There's a very BIG problem with sticking it into the end all be all former icon of automotive insanity. First time I drove a Countach, it was a constant swap between "Oh, crap, I am going to die. and "Hey, I'm going to die, but it will look awesome."-- that's what Audi completely, totally castrated from Lambo, and may they burn for it. (But I'd still flog an R8 )
Perhaps you need to learn how to drive the new lambos, I can still get myself to say Oh, crap, I am going to die." AWD cannot defy the laws of physics, but it sure as hell lets you push them to the max.
Oh, I'm no stranger to powerful AWD cars. However, I've driven old Lambos, and the new ones are about as exciting as a plain cheese pizza by comparison. Yeah, they go fast and make more power than the older ones, but as with flappies, they're no where near as much fun as the older cars.
according to an informant on m3post this 'concept' is merely a m3/m3csl hybrid. for the standard m3, we can assume that there will be new rims, no cf roof and probably some missing vents or a smaller hood bulge. this is a concept, thus, we can not assume the entire design is final...as was the m5 concept. the normal m3 is suppose to have somewhere between 425-450hp while the csl will have a hp bump from that. this is an improvement to the m5, imho
well it resembles the current 3, so thats expected...with that said, i like it for what its supposed to be
Keep your gunpowder dry for a sec and checkout the results from the prestigous International Engine of The year Award for 2006 at http://paultan.org/archives/2006/05/15/2006-international-engine-of-the-year-awards-results/ It reads like this Best Performance Engine The BMW M5 and BMW M6s 5.0 liter V10 packed full of Formula 1 technology takes this category with its 507bhp and 520Nm of torque from a 5 liter 90 degree V10 block. This engine is relatively lightweight; uses iron-coated aluminium pistons for example. Each cylinder is also fed by a dedicated throttle, giving the engine a total of 10 throttle trumpets, sucking air in from 2 intake plenums. You can treat the results table below as a yardstick of how technologically advanced the BMW 5.0 liter V10 is, the engine scored almost double the points of the Ferrari 4.3 liter V8 from the Ferrari F430 which took won the 2nd place position. 1. BMW 5-litre V10 (M5, M6) 342 2. Ferrari 4.3-litre V8 (F430) 160 3. Mercedes-AMG 6-litre bi-Turbo (SL65, CL65, Maybach) 130 4. Chevrolet 7-litre V8 (Corvette ZO6) 103 5. Porsche 3.8-litre (911) 54 6. BMW 3.2-litre (M3, Z4 M) 52 from my vantage point they still seem to be making some pretty impressive engines and the judges agree. Design wise though Bangle has got to go
oh please, you guys are forgetting the early 90's japanese supercars. very much ahead of their time and still in huge demand today. Mainly the 93+ Supra's, 90+ 300ZX, and the NSX. They will never again build cars like that.
