Having a titer done for rabies probably cost more than the annual shot. Never heard of a rabies vaccination being danger to the dog. I only see this with cats that can have a cancerous reaction to the shot.
Dysplasia is not caused by diet. Genetics is to blame. Giving your pup the best science diet food will only ensure the pup has the best building blocks to maximize his potential.
Last time, the test cost $50. I think the vaccination would have been $30 or so. But beyond the cost, it's like spending a little more on better food. The health benefits for the animal are what's most important, and by spending a little more up front you hope to improve your pet's health, which could save money in the long run on medical costs. As far as the rabies shots are concerned, over-vaccination in dogs has been linked to triggering auto-immune responses. Our Goldens are naturally susceptible to developing skin allergies, which are also commonly caused by the use of grains in lower-quality foods for filler. Our older Golden actually had a response after being given a rabies booster too soon by mistake (long story--the Vet thought we were taking her to Mexico?!). We've addressed it through diet and, when necessary, Benadryl.
Mr. Pete's ROFLCOPTER fired itself up and flew out the window after you posted that. Your information fount does flow freely. Thxinfo!
Peter congrats on your new puppy. We've had Akita x's and have a 13 year old Akita spay - we got Spirit when she was 13 weeks old and 34 pounds -this breed requires early training so with all three dogs we took them to "Puppy Kindergarten", followed by basic, advanced training and agility. Not only is this beneficial for the dog, it was great fun for us too. Enjoy your new best friend. Carol
We picked up the pup this afternoon. We named it Rigby. On our first stop, it did nothing but follow Chelsea all over the grass. This is one loveable pup! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congrats! My wife and are got our first puppy a little under a year ago, and since we are w/o kids, she has become our first child. She's actually asleep against my leg right now Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn cute dawg! Funny to see it in a sport sock! When I brough the pup home, I spent an hour just watching for it to go 'potie'. Several trips outside. It went after the ball ASAP and I rolled it and ot brought it back to me to throw it again! I think I'll relive my childhood memories of my Shepard!
This pup refuses to be ANYPLACE than under my feet ALL DAMN DAY! I probably picked it up 20 times today before saying Screwit! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm pretty sure that science diet and iams are now owned by major brands and the quality changed completely. Look into Royal Canin if you can find it (I think they just went to 100% vet exclusive distributorship), much better ingredient list, less 'byproducts' and more 'products' if you know what I mean. All the 'major' brands now have been bought by bigger corporations, iams, eukanuba, science diet, etc...and the ingredient list went to crap afterwards.
"...You'll pay the mortgage on this home, Work your fingers to the bone, But in the end you'll have to face, Who it is that really owns this place, I'm happy, I'm a happy dog..." The pic of the dog by your foot is great.
Since my last post, Rigby has developed a big white heart on her wittle face! SOOOOOOOO Cute! Image Unavailable, Please Login
