Manual Ferrari gearboxes are just slow shifters. Upshift or down shift heel/toe or not they shift slow. I am finally at the point on the track where this slow shifting is costing me laptime or position. I am especially having problems on the upshift while sprinting to the first corner on starts. The 1-2 shift is the worst. Does anyone know how to cure this? I need to get these boxes to shift at least Porsche or toyota fast.

Not being able to afford what happens when you slam shift a V8 gearbox, all I can suggest is if the 1-2 shift is that important, what would happen if you started off in 2nd with big revs and slipped the clutch a bit if needed. Clutches are much cheaper and accessible compared to synchros IMO

Porsche gearbox... you might get there. Toyota? It'll never happen.

Start tightening up your linkage where you can, replace gearbox mountsand start experimenting with different gearbox oils. I just added urethane mounts to my MR2 along with solid brass shifter bushings and it's helped quite a lot. But, at the moment the vibration and resonance I'm getting from the engine in the cabin is unbearable. I'm probably just getting old. For a race car it'd be fine though. I plan on doing some modifications to them to reduce the V&R. Pics are below. Link to the products (just to give you an idea) is provided as well. I'm assuming the 3x8 series has the same engine and gearbox mounting "type." The transverse engine/gearbox is suspended by the mounts at the passenger side front of the engine and drivers side rear of the transmission. The torque that the engine/gearbox exhibits when you step on the gas is controlled by the mounts on either side of the engine/gearbox, one facing the firewall of the cabin and the other facing the firewall of the trunk. These also help hold some of the load of holding up the engine/gearbox but not much. By eliminating the old worn out rubber bushing in them (you replace your old bushings in your suspension right?) you eliminate a lot of the movement the engine makes fore and aft. That little bit of movement can throw off the shift linkage a bit.

I could be all wrong. I've never seen the mountings of the 3x8 series, but I suspect that Toyota lifted their overall design from Ferrari.
