I ordered one of Ron's wedge kits to get the dash air in my 1988 3.2 Cabriolet off my knees but would like to know if there is a way to get some more air coming out of the defroster vents at the windshield and the black round vents on the top of the dash on each side.

I already blocked the vents under the dash and the ones leading to the side windows.

Will Ron's kit get me more air in these other locations or is there something else I need to check under the dash? I have not installed Ron's kit yet.

Ron's kit is the best! Did you buy some latches also?

    Hi Alden,

Ron's wedge kit does the masterful job of properly redirecting the center vent's airflow for optimized (and comfortable) cabin cooling. But I don't believe it has any thing to do with any other outlets. I suspect that lower than proper airflow volume to these other outlets, be it heat or cool air, is most likely the result of degradation of the material forming the channels leading to the outlet.

UNLESS - - - shoring up the passage way to the upgraded center vent, now prevents airflow "loss", which in turn, increases airflow to the other vents.

Ron, am I on the right track with my theory?

    Cheers,

    Hank

    Alden,

When I installed Rons kit I added extra duct tape around the vent enclosure to prevent loss of air under the dash around the main air duct

the kit comes with very nice foam to help seal it up ..I just added some extra seal with the tape over the outside of the foam all around

in my opinion the round vents on top of the dash are too far away to have much flow

my defrost is pretty strong though

If you are truly trying to keep cooler I would suggest to "tint" the whole front window with ceramic or metalized tint (you can get the lightest tint and it doesnt look tinted) its very effective ..I did this on my former DeLorean because that car is just a greenhouse without tint!

    Hank,
You are correct as usual. My door and round dash vents are largely ornamental. I don't think they worked well on day one.....
    Thanks!

I have very little coming out of the defrost vents, not enough to defog the windshield, and nothing from the round vents on the dash.

I am thinking that something must be wrong somewhere.

After I install Ron's kit I will see what I have and maybe do some investigation of the air ducting under the dash.

I'll let you know if I find anything unusual.

You may want to double-check you have enough vacuum on the control lines (hoses). Check the vacuum reservoir is in good condition along with the hoses under the center console and to/from the heating/ventilation selector switch panel. The vacuum reservoir is located in the engine compartment and down under the rear LH air vent and looks like a large coffee can with 2 hoses (one going forward to the selector in the cabin and the other going to a take-off on the plenum).
