My garage is 36' deep and 26' wide, with 9.5' ceilings. I had the roof removed, and the back 22.5' of the depth raised to 13' ceilings.........this is to accomodate the lift.

Here is a picture of the drywall being nailed to the 13' ceiling. The aerial manlift is a VERY neat toy!!!!!!!!!!!!

How big a pain was this to do if you don't mind my asking. I am thinking of doing the same thing. It's either that or put a whole new garage at the other end of the house. If I could raise the roof of mine two feet it would work out just about perfect.

I had a contractor do the job. The initial idea was to remove the section of the roof with a crane, raise the walls, and lower the roof back on. The problem, in my case, was there was no room next to the house, to rest the roof on the ground, while the walls where being built. Where this house is, there are codes restricting a lateral addition to the garage, and I was already at the limit.

As a result, they had to take the roof apart, and remove each individual rafter. After they built up the walls, they replaced the rafters, one by one, and then added a new roof. I had them add several windows.

The job took about 5 days, and cost $10,500. It would have been about $8,000, if they could have used the crane.

I am doing the insulation and drywallying myself.

Thanks for the reply! That may be the way for me to go. Would be a lot cheaper and easier than building a new garage.

I have a Mohawk 9,000 lb, 2-post lift, where I presently live.........installed it in 2000. I will be moving in 2-3 months, and am trying to get the garage finished, at the new home.

The floor is concrete, and I have no plans, at this time, to treat it with anything. I have seen epoxy floors, and they are just too slippery, when wet.

    Very cool Henry.
I wish there was land here, so I can expand and do similar things.
Are you done with the major service on the TR?? What did you end deciding to do with it?

tvu: The major on the TR is done. I still have to adjust the fuel distributor plungers. This will have to be trial and error, since, no one seems to know about these things............I am formulating a plan. Otherwise, the TR just sits in the corner, for now. When I feel like taking a cruise, I just use the Boxer.
I am trying to move further along on the house and garage, before I move in, so that I can start moving my shop equipment into the garage.

When I built my garage I went way overboard on the electrical. Lots of circuits and outlets everywhere.

Except right above/near the batteries of the cars. I had to hack up an extension cord to hang nearby so I could plug in the battery maintainers when the cars weren't in use. I wish I would have considered this beforehand.

Now I have garage envy. I just wish that one day I would have enough space to place all my tools, insteading moving them around all the time.

Glad to see it's coming along!

John: The machining and welding equipment is just for weekend projects........one of my hobbies. It takes all this to keep my Ferraris running.........haha!!!!!!!!!

I have machined my own distributor bushings, for my Boxer........these where unavailable. Have also made test pipes for my TR.........even sold a couple of sets.........the welds are getting better!!!!! I plan to use my tube bender to make a custom exhaust for the TR.........maybe even sell a set, or two.

I plan on selling the mill and lathe.........I'm ready for a couple of CNC machines.

The garage should be finished (insullation, drywall, electrical), by the end of May. I plan on moving the lift into the garage in June.

tvu: You should get out of CA, and move to the Midwest........haha!!!!! Land here is going for about $3,000 per acre, out in the country.

Let me know when you are ready to sell them (Mill and Lathe) im looking for a pair for my shop - also - i have a SS exhaust system for my 90 TR (Ive seen yours btw which look great) anyway i received the SS system as a gift from my ex girlfriend from Montreal (manufactured there) i believe the cost was somewhere around $1600.00 i guess a lot cheaper than Tubi (now i know why i left her) hahahaha (only kidding) but i have been hesitant to install it - thought the car's resale value would be better if it was completely stock. Do you know where i could sell the SS set-up ?

    John,

I just put the mill and lathe for sale, in the Green Bay classified section......starts today. I already ordered my new mill. Are you in the GB area?

Re your SS exhaust: I would put it in the classified section of both Ferrari forums.
