How difficult is it to get the maintenance records from a dealership. I am interested in a car that an independent is selling (through an auction) but they say they can't gain access to the records until the previous owner signs off. I don't think they are trying to hide anything but I would like to know if certain things have been done - ie windows, majors etc.. - before I consider doing anything. Any way to expedited or get the info myself?
    TIA
    Franck

It may depend on the dealership, of course. However, I would recommend calling the dealer who serviced the car and ask them for the records with the previous owner's name & address blanked out. I did this with my car and Algar kindly faxed me the records.

The dealer may verify if certain repairs have been done, but they probably will not give you copies of the records

Well if I'm buying a Ferrari they sure as hell better give me copies of the records. How else will you know you're getting a proper-serviced car?

    A dealer's word isn't worth much.

Yes - I am surprised it is taking them so long to get permission especially since they now own the car.

The records would belong to the dealer or independant that did the work. They would also belong to the previous owner. So maybe you would ask nicely and see if either would give you copies. Many of us with older cars are actually willing to pay for the old records. And when vintage items like old service records come up on Ebay people are all over them.

Ferrari of CF would not give me any records of the car I recently purchased without the permission of the previous car owner.

The selling dealer here is not a Ferrari Dealer if I read the post correctly. I really do not see why they make such a big deal out of it. They can print the record showing vin and delete the previous owners info.
