A 1971 SS I know nothing about this car. It looks cool. It seems on paper to have some good components. - It has a nice top end. The interior rocks (a 1970's flight deck). One question I had. Is it a "real" Maserati ? Does it have Citroen or other major components. (I do not know when Citroen purchased Maser). Are they fairly reliable ? - Not as in Corolla reliability. But are there any major design flaws ? Like any relatively inexpensive older Italian car, I am sure you want to buy the BEST mechanical car out there. Any comments or advice ? Thanks Ralph
Go here. http://www.thecarnut.com/ He has some pretty good history on the cars. IMHO the Ghibli is a fantastic auto. I believe the Citroen hydraulic stuff was used in the Bora and Merak. The only negative to them is they don't have 12 cylinders. For the price of a 330 GT you can get a gorgeous 2 seat GT car. Erich
I'd drive it before I deceided. I always found the seat to be too low and the center consol to be too high. After a while my shifting arm got cramped from too high center consol.
Agree with Napolis but...I have many hours in a 1970 on long road trips and these are TRUE GT touring cars. 12cyl is meaningless. It has 8 Italian racing heritage cylinders that will do the trick. Much less maint than a Daytona and performs the same mission very well. The one Ive been driving has a nice true dual factory exhaust and some nice Italian headers. These are great cars and the prices seem to be increasing steadily for good documented models. Its a standard car with no Citroen influence at all. Enjoy it.
lots of low end torque compared to a Ferrari V12....egine supposed to be abuse tolerant. Gotta love the styling and the value (half to one quarter of Daytona prices). The suspension is the one anachronistic bit in the car. I think it would make a great classic car. Expect parts prices to be same or more than F cars (one major vendor in the US, fewer examples and mavens) thx luke
Beautiful cars. Spare parts are hard to come by - harder than Ferrari, I've been told. Make sure the mechanicals are well sorted before you buy!
How does it compare to a C4, I've driven those and the styling between the two is so similar! It's a great looking car.
Ghibli has better proportions, nicer bumpers, and a more distinct interior. The C4 has 2 extra seats, nicer leather, and a better sound. C4 is also about 15-20K more. I have always toyed with getting a Ghibli/ So many cars, so little time (and money).
