Hi all. I hope the holidays were good to everyone.
I have a quick question about the cam interchangeability between the Ghibli/Khamsin and the Tipo 330 Quattroporte.
The parts book for the Ghibli only lists 2 types of cam for the Left and Right heads. These do not have a 115 part number. For the Khamsin (and Bora) there are 4 different part numbers for L and R and inlet/exhaust. These do have 115 part numbers. For example LH exhaust 115MD67183
QP3 cams are also four in number, but the numbering convention is totally different in the parts book, so here the LH exhaust is 424.03.03.00
Are these the same profile cams? Or were they optimised for torque to lug the QP3 a bit more effectively?

Can any of our Maserati wise men shed any light?

    wishing everyone the very best.
    Mark.

I have a Ghibli engine needing cams, and a chance to buy a QP 3 engine with good cams for cheaper than a brand new Ghibli set. There are some other bits of timing gear I need too,so all good in theory......but are the parts actually the same??

    best. Mark

    Hello Mark,
the cam profile of QP3 and late Ghibli are identical: 67000 (intake), 67500 (outlet). These are the best with the highest lift of the old V8.
The left- and right-hand cams are different (of course) as they have to follow the firing order.
You can not use (without modification) a set of QP3 cams on the Ghibli as the RH intake cam at the QP3 drives a vacuum pump as brake help.
So the rear end of the cam is longer and slotted. You can try to cut of, but hmmmmmm (I won't do).
Concerning details (like cams) the part books are not very helpful as they were never updated and did therefore not include the modifications of the cars.

    Best regards from Cologne
    Jörg

Thanks so much Jörg. I have decided to go ahead anyway and get the engine as the extra parts will be of use.
Wishing everyone a happy new year and a relaxing weekend.
